The dogtag has a mic built in. It's pretty cool to be on the train listening to music and answer a call with stereo headphones, blocks out alot of noise.

Looks like a nice option. How about the headphones that come with it? Not good enough that you use wired instead?

Well, my iS4s and the stock headphones you both plug into the Jabra dogtag, which streams audio from the phone via Bluetooth, not sure if I was clear. The video explains it better. I lost the headphones that came with the Jabra, and my GF got me the iS4s as a Xmas gift. The stock headphones quality is not bad for stock, but the iS4s blow them away, especially in the bass. They're awesome.

The one's I found to be the best for me, are the Sony MDR-EX38ip. They're made for the Iphone and sold at Radio Shack but in my opinion they deliver superior sound quality at $39.99. They're recommended by Radio Shack employees as best for the EVO and they're hard to come by because they sell out quickly here in the NYC area. I use them with "MIXZING", an app from the Android market. Mixzing has it's bugs but it has an equalizer which allows you to control the sound of your music. There's a free and a paid version. I'm using the free and it's buggy but they've making updates and improvements. Not perfect yet but did work for me without a problem on a rooted rom, OMJ version from XDA developers. Not advocating rooting since it can leave you hanging and no where to turn for immediate help if something goes wrong. It also voids your warranty. This is my first response post so, please be kind.

So do all the functions of the headphones work with MixZing? Like the play, pause, skip forward, skip back, etc etc.

So far I guess my options are:

SuperFi 5vi: $73 at amazon & $162 at Walmart.com: Logitech SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone: Audio can somebody confirm this if this is the same headphone.

Or Klipsch Image S4i for $100 at amazon

What do u guys say? is klipsch worth the extra $25?
I've never tested the Logitech ones, so I can't compare them, but I'd definately reccomend the Klipsch IS4s if you care at all about sound quality, they're way beyond stock headphones that come pre packaged.

One thing you should know though, is that the IS4s don't have a mic, so you'd need to pair them with something like the Jabra Clipper or BT3030 Dog tag I posted.

EDIT: My bad, I just realized you were asking about the S4is, not the iS4s that I have.

I emailed the tech support about it. They had a crash and had to restore to a backup.

PITA but whatever, no one's fault. Anyway, reposting my question that got lost in the tubes:

i went bluetooth route and got plantronics backbeat 903 for $50 at Frys, they now have the 906 model for about $15 more i think. THey are good but the over the ear style, not cool looking but do the job and you can use them with nearly all the features u mentioned, they keep a good charge and do the job for me. im not a huge music listener though

bimmjo, do the headset music control buttons work for you? I got the 903's when I had my Pre, and totally loved them. After I switched to the Evo, the controls worked for a while, then, one app at a time, they stopped responding to different media players. Doubletwist continued to work for a while, but finally quit a couple of weeks ago.

The volume controls work fine, and it does pause the music when I answer a call via the headset, but if I hit the pause button it mutes the music but does not pause it, and the track forward and back switch does not work at all.

I've tried unpairing and even a hard reset, but I can't figure out how to get it going again. I'e also tried every free player on the market. Really hesitant to purchase an app without knowing if it will work. It's very frustrating.

Hi -- this issue has bothered me since I upgraded to HTC EVO 4G. It took lots of Googling w. trial and error but I now have a setup that works for me and addresses issues discussed in this thread.

Here is the solution that is tested and works now:

- HTC EVO 4G

- Android 2.2 Froyo

- MixZing Media Player
(critical component -- native music player does not support all functions)

- LG 3.5mm Stereo Earbud Headset - SGEY0005576

Notice an in-ear headset w. a mic and a separate in-line one-button controller.
I bought this set for $9.95 from eBay (Item No. 260560070186) and suspect that
any in-line controller will work.

With this set-up I have all call management and media management functions except Volume control. For music playing,

one click -- play/pause,
two clicks -- skip
three clicks -- rewind

This is all that I needed...

Hope this helps!

For a wired headset, Slacker (a cross between Pandora and satellite radio that for $5/mo will cache up to 25 "stations" you design or are professionally programmed, saving your battery life from streaming) does play and pause, but not skip. Double-press dials the last call. Who decided that should be default behavior?

I'm using Ultimate Ears (now Logitech) 10vi's. Absurdly expensive, yes, but clarity, flat frequency response, and great spatial placement. You need a perfect seal for any IEM to work. I have to get aftermarket Comply's, which are made of memory foam. The stock flanges and foam sleeves don't work for me. The cable is user-replaceable, which is key, especially for something that costs that much.

I used to have Etymotic ER4s. Great if you like classical, jazz, and acoustic. Bass is a bit weaker than it should be, but you can hear every detail. Spatial placement of instruments isn't as good as the 10vi's. With mine, the cable made stethescope noises when I walked, but I hear they've improved that.

I had Etymotic ER6s before that. Those are great for the price. I thought they were almost as good as the ER4s.

Hey Doyer - how do the included headphones sound after using them for a bit? Mine sound awful right now. Is it worth breaking them in?
If you mean the headphones that come with the Jabra dogtag, I'd say go ahead and buy some quality ones if you can afford it. The stock ones are alright for stock, but you obviously are used to using quality phones. It be hard for me to go back to generic headphones for any device now that I've been using my IS4s.

I have several pairs of headphones but they all have longer cables. The only headphones that I'd use with the Jabra are the the Etymotic Research ER6i's & I don't really like wearing noise isolating earphones in most situations. The Jabra's are sounding a little better now that they've been broken in a little, but they still sound a little muddled.

I found the best app a couple of days ago, it called DroidShuffle and it can assign single, double, triple and long click mediaplayer actions to a lot of headphones with a button.
I read here that it only works with one button headphones and not the newer ones for the iphone with volume controls, but I have had not real confirmation yet.
I just ordered UE metrofi 220vi's so I'll report if they work when i get them which might take a couple of days.
But DroidShuffle worked with my standard htc headset so i'm quite confident.
If you tried it and it worked or not, please say so.

Edit: PS i use a HTC Desire, but I guess it should work the same way since it's all Android and HTC

Droidshuffle sounds great, but the security warning in android market says "Services that cost you money: directly call phone numbers"

I can't see a reason it would need to dial out. I guess I'm gonna pass.

this way you can also hang up and pickup with the button on your headset while using the application, so it's nothing bad
Edit: and yes, it is great

I've got the Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept and I have the kicka** UE Triple.Fi 10.vi headset. Problem is, even with DroidShuffle installed, a click of the button will open the dialer and a double click/long click will dial out to the last caller. It was obvious to me that it was a software problem before I ever read these posts. DS has a feature that makes the phone vibrate in response to each button click, and that doesn't even happen. How do I take control of what the button does?

hrmmm...i have the motorola bt headphones with no issues... have a pair of rocketfish tah we bought my father in law but haven't tried those.

sound quality is great...and no wires

A nice little gadget: Jabra Clipper

I'd use this with my sweat-proof earbuds at the gym, but can I just use this for transport and volume controls when I decide to plug in directly into the phone (for best SQ)? If it functions just as controls, could I still use the mic? I'd love this clipped onto my backpack strap when I'm walking around campus!

Try this one, I believe it's made by small company in California (i'm not really sure though) called Meelectronics

Amazon.com: MEElectronics M9P-BK Hi-Fi Sound-Isolating In-Ear Headphones with Microphone (Black): Electronics

Comes with many accessories including different sizes of buds and very handy case which I use it a lot.

You really need to break this buds for about 2 days. When i tried them the first time, I wasn't really impressed by the sounds .. but after few days of extensive uses .. I must admit this is the best $20-ish phones period. Strong on bass without being ridiculous, great on highs, decent on the mid range .. nice. Although I'm not an audiophile, but I know what's the ugly or great sounds sounded like for my own taste. I listen to many kind of music.. from punk, jazz, rock, electronica, to drum'n'bass, this phones nicely covered all. I've experienced Bose's, few Sennheiser's, Audio Technica, Sony's, etc .. for the price, this hard to beat. Has a very good noise isolation. Just try it.

The cons :
- the button only controls the play/pause for the music player, but I found out that you can add more functions to this single button with Droidshuffle app, so it works better now. Still no function for call, but I don't really care.
- Although it sounds really really great for music, it's not that great and a bit muddy when on the phone calls, but hey .. i still can hear them loud and clear.

I just didn't think that I need to shell out over 50 bucks just to get a great quality sounding buds, so for $20, this overpassed the bill for my HTC EVO.

Hope this helps.
