No, it's normal for a CPU to heat up during high load levels.
Because the phones build profile is so slim, the heat can easily be felt by the user.
How about internet usage?

My phone turned itself off as well and it will not turn on. When trying to charge, it only gets hot. The phone used to get very hot before once in a while and sometimes it restarts on its own - probably because it cannot cope up with many open apps that always connect to wifi or might have installed a badly written app (just guessing).
Currently, the phone is dead at home and I am thinking whether it is still worth it to send for repair which the Samsung Repair Centre in the UK said it will cost
My phone gets hot playing games particularly. I've checked my battery stats app and a few days ago it peaked at 46c and 53c ! Surely that's too hot ? I wasn't too concerned at the time but am starting to be.,FWIW I'm on GB 2.3.6. (I downgraded back from 4.0.3 about a month ago.)
Any way Russell Ng has read somewhere that the phone will shut off once it's maximum temperature has been reached.
