Help Heating problem with S2

How about internet usage?

Depends, even when using an efficient tabbed browser such as Dolphin Mini, if you are watching flash videos online or playing online flash games, the CPU still gets taxed hard.

Normal every day browsing shouldn't use more than 20% of the phones CPU on average but that being said some websites that make use of a lot of inefficient javascript code can cause the phone CPU to hover over the 90% mark for the pimpliest things.

One SMF forum i use, forces my CPU usage up to 99% whilst posting a message.

The bottom line is, the CPU will give out heat at high loads no matter what activity you are doing.

You may also have apps running in the background.

Unfortunately the Google OS does nothing to protect the user from badly designed apps running in the background sucking up valuable CPU, RAM and battery.

Your best bet is to download a CPU indicator app (i use CPU Notify) and enable it in the notification area (to always know how much of your CPU is currently being utilized at any given moment).

And a Task Manager app to know what apps and services are running either in the forefront or background (i use Advanced Task Cleaner Pro).

Where's My Droid power is another good app that lists all the apps running and how much power they are sapping.

This app revealed that my once efficient Anti Virus app (when i installed it in 2010) was now taking up a whopping 25% of battery power, thus i uninstalled it and found another that takes only 0.28%.

Battery life increased dramatically for me and because i have all my apps on a tight lease, i never get any heat from my phone (as a side note, i don't play games on my phone as i like the battery to last as long as possible).

I watch videos on my phone daily (using MX Player app) and the CPU only goes as high as 50% thus i don't get any noticeable heat from that activity either.

My phone turned itself off as well and it will not turn on. When trying to charge, it only gets hot. The phone used to get very hot before once in a while and sometimes it restarts on its own - probably because it cannot cope up with many open apps that always connect to wifi or might have installed a badly written app (just guessing).

Currently, the phone is dead at home and I am thinking whether it is still worth it to send for repair which the Samsung Repair Centre in the UK said it will cost

My battery doesn't get hot while charging...

I'm with Darkflame, try a new battery.

zee786, battery conditioning only really works at the beginning of the battery's life. Battery reconditioning is quite helpful however. Everyone should completely discharge and immediately completely recharge at least once a month. It works well for prolonging the life of small batteries. Letting it down to 20% then charging to full is not as effective.

My phone gets hot playing games particularly. I've checked my battery stats app and a few days ago it peaked at 46c and 53c ! Surely that's too hot ? I wasn't too concerned at the time but am starting to be.,FWIW I'm on GB 2.3.6. (I downgraded back from 4.0.3 about a month ago.)

Hi - I am getting a hot battery/CPU since upgrading to ICS - I started a thread about maximum temperature here: -

http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...-battery-temperature-what-normal-maximum.html

Maybe these threads need merging - Mods?

However I occasionally get 54c when streaming vids via my browser. Bloody hot that :) Any way Russell Ng has read somewhere that the phone will shut off once it's maximum temperature has been reached.

I am curious though as to what this temperature is and how close I get to it sometimes. So far my phone has never switched off but I do tend to close my browser when the temp gets towards 52/53c

I never play games it's just when streaming vids via my browser. I use the stock browser and/or Chrome Beta

Depends on how hot.... It gets warm for me with usage of phone. Heavier usage means it gets warmer. Normally on standby its fine. Try getting an app / widget that can tell your battery temperature. That might give an indication for absolute value that you can compare with.

Cheers

Well my phone somehow improved itself, by doing nothing. Firstly i updated to ics but this not helped, and the phone heated the same. Just made me mind not to bother about it, becouse its normal. Have not used phone for couple of days (i used, but as just a regular cellphone, calling and awnsering. ). Now i pop up a game to play, its not heating as much as in last times. At first i runed a 3D, the phone got very hot in about 20s, But now its nothing like that, And for the most good part the games started to run really nice, have had some 'lag' in games Modern combat 3, but now its gone (well, almost as i remember, not have tryed the place where is really laggy). And now i played it about 3h multiplayed via WI-FI and the phone is not that hot as it was before. The only thing what i was tryed to do is to check 'force gpu renderering' in dev menu, maybe that helped, but i doubt it , becouse i have tryed playing games with and without that, and i have not found any difrence. Any ideas why this happened?

Dears,

I have got Samsung Galaxy SII - GT-19100 (4.0.3 Android version) from Singapore before couple of months. Since then, it hangs often but not in use. I have to remove battery and put back and press start button. It starts and works as good child. Whenever, device hangs, I found, the phone was hot and battery was drained.
I was advised by Samsung customer care India to try factory reset and phone software installation anew. I tried both. But problem not solved.
Please advise. I love my SII much.

Thanks in advance.

Nahvi
