Hello! Ultra New

Hello!! I am a brand spankin' wet behind the ears android user. Actually, have in my hands a Verizon iPhone 4 that I will be returning tomorrow and will be embarking on my first android venture! At the moment I am vascilkating between the HTCinc2 or the Charge, leaning more toward the Charge. Had a BB Curve that I hated.

I'm an RN and work in High Risk Perinatal/Labor & Delivery and have done so for 17 years. My mom, daughter and I barrel race and I am a huge animal lover. We have 13 horses, 9 dogs a cat, a snake, a bunny and oh, 12 chickens and have had quite a few exotics in the past as well.

Now I know a lot about animals but little to nothing about getting the most out of my phone. I have no idea what rooting means, or many of the terms in use but hope to educate myself quickly. Whatever phone I get tomorrow I will be stuck with for the next couple years most likely so want to be sure to learn how to maximize it's performance and utility.

So, I'm very open to suggestions!

Welcome to Android Menagerie Forums, Curtita.

You'll want to hook up with the users in HTC Droid Incredible 2 - Android Forums and Samsung Droid Charge - Android Forums and get the info right from the (pardon the pun) horse's mouth. I don't think you'd go wrong with either of those phones. It's more a matter of which feels better in your hands. Try each one out if you get the chance. Or, cut out pictures of each, put them on the ground and see which one the chickens like, and then go with the other one ;)

Lol, I am steadily perusing the Charge forums. Think that's what I'm going to end up with, but have to admit I haven't really looked at the Inc forums. I have done a bunch of googling though and like them both. I hope I make the right decision and don't end up with a lemon.

Welcome to the forums! :)

I like HTC so my choice would be the INC2!

Thanks! I am going to the Verizon store tomorrow morning so I need to do some more studying in a hurry! We are almost home from our trip to Pa and I have an inservice early am so will head to the store after that.

I see that Sense is very well liked. I'm going to do some more studying and also play with them in the store to see if I have a clear preference.

Welcome to the forums... I'm sure you'll be ahppy with whichever device you end up going for!

This place is great for tips and tricks on how best to use/improve your device... hope you find your stay useful!!

Thank you! This forum has already been very helpful in appeasing a few concerns I had about each phone.

Just wanted to update, I did get the Charge today. Now on to doing whatever I can to save battery life since I am ALWAYS on my phone. I do like it so far, just need to learn how to navigate a little better, and how to tweek a few things, but overall I am very pleased (with the exception of the battery life!)

Thanks so much, especially to GunnerJim who's posts made the most difference in my choice. He has had all of the phones I was considering, and his input changed my mind.

Welcome to the AndroidForums, Curtita1 :).

Be sure to throw a "Thanks" or two GunnerJim's way--I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Cheers and glad you signed-up.

Will do! Now, how do I subscribe to a thread? I don't see that option???

I think there's two ways to do it (there might be more...), but here's the two I know:

1. Post / reply in the thread itself and you will be automatically subscribed

2. View the thread, and near the top (just above the first post), click on the "Thread Tools" link and select "Subscribe to this Thread"

Cheers!

Thanks, have not received notifications that anyone has replied to this thread......but will look for the tools option.
Thanks!!!

Huh, its been a while since I first signed-up, so I don't remember if the auto-email setting was on for me or not...

You should be able to go into your User Control Panel (sometimes shown as "User CP"), etc.

There's an "Edit Options" link in the "Settings & Options" section (in blue) on the left-hand side of the User Control Panel screen.

Read over the "Messaging & Notification" area in the middle and see what options are enabled for you. I think what you are looking for is the "Default Thread Subscription Mode" setting.

Hope that helps!

Cheers!

edit: be sure to click the "Save Settings" button at bottom if you make any changes.
