Help HELP - cannot update firmware via kies

See attachment, this is what you should see. This is where you have changed the product code ect, once you have done all the changes then go to file and export it to desktop and then import it.
Don't forget under kies you will have other folders and then numbered folders, in the numbered folders you will find the keys to change, in my case it is folder 3, but this doe's vary, as long as you can see the same info as in attachment you should be ok.
It might be easier to PM me

Thanks for your help, job done and the registry hack now appears to have permanently changed

Yeah, its a replacement phone from Orange, the first one was unlocked, but *#7465625# on this shows: Network Lock [ON]

I got mine from Orange at the beginning of July when they had only just got them in stock and I do know that the first batch Orange had, they didn't have time to simlock or brand them

I checked mine again today with kies open and phone connected and the registry had changed back again, so it may not be permanent.

Does this also apply to upgrading via Kies and using the registry hack to change to Product Code?

as far as i know its safe to use kies but i have never tryed it so i would do more research before u go at it. personally i would use www.samfirmware.com
to unlock it and then there is no risk of complications

as for regedit i dont think it can be made perminant for the simple reason that the registry gets the info off the phone every time you plug it in the kies checks the registry before checking for an update. we are just modifying the middle man so to speak.

Hi Cyb3r5c4r
I think your right about the registry, I have tried various different things and nothing seems to make it permanent. So for the time being we will just have make the changes as and when needed.

Thanks. So i would need to change this everytime i used Kies? Thats not too much of a problem as i only intend to use it for updating the firmware. For transfering data, backing up etc i would use USB Switcher, would there be any problems with my PC recognising the phone, driver issues etc?

well i had terrible issues with drivers and kies finding my phone until i updated the firmware and the all just went away.

kies finds my phone every time now and so does windows (7 ultimate 64bit)

im sure the regedit can be made perminant but it would probably mean rooting the phone an finding files on it and modifling them a lot of hard work for an update every couple months

This is working for me, both XEU and XEE
But of course this trick would change the salescode (along with the nv_data.bin) from the original to XEU/XEE !!!

Is there any workaround to avoid that ?

I recently changed my csc/salescode from european (Hungary) to Italian (ITV) and anything worked.
But Kies won't upgrade any more... :(

I actually tried different ProductCode's (GT-I9000HKDxxx) to realign it, but always get the "This device's version cannot be updated" error

It seems the XE? code is a wildcard or something like that.
Anyone ?

Thanks a lot

Pleas help me. I just got a Galaxy S from ebay and I'm stuck with a really old firmware compared to my other Galaxy S.

This is a silly question but where to I actually type *#272*HHmm# as I did it as a call and I can't get the letters up. PLEASE HELP ME.

Okay so I figured out how to type in *#272*HHMM# (stupid of me). However when I do there are NO Product codes to choose from. I am on T Mobile but fuinnily enough my Orange sim works in it without needed to be unlocked.

My issue is that I have 2 Galaxy S's. One from Orange and one from ebay.

Pictures are better than words so please have a look:

As you can see one of my phones is running the latest firmware but the other one isn't AND also says it cannot be updated.

I am not interested in getting Froyo. I will get that when it is officially released. All I want is the phone to be able to be updated. I have tried everything suggested here, changed the registry but nothing works. Have I got a dud phone because surely my T Mobile phone (which somehow allows an orange sim to work) can get JM3 update by now?

Please help me, it seems like I have the same problem.

I recently got a SGS on my upgrade, and the firmware is as follows:

PDA: JG3
PHONE: JF1
CSC: JG1

Network is T-Mobile

I have installed the latest Kies properly, connected the device properly.

However, it says this device's version cannot be updated.

How can I solve the problem and download the latest firmware? I have not done anything wrong the phone, I have just got it.

Thanks,

rkaria19

I have been waiting for kies to say that new firmware is available (when it works!) and finally it knows there is an update to my JF3 - presumably JM1.

However, is says that 'this device's version cannot be updated'

My SGS was bought from Mobiles.co.uk and is using an Orange SIM and as far as I can tell it is not locked or branded.

The current firmware is

PDA ...XXJF3
Phone ...XXJF3
CSC ...XAJF3

Is this an 'Orange' CSC?

Any other ideas on how I can get it updated?

Okay...I have seen this exact problem many times....the key here is to first of all disable all of your internet security programs. Next, go directly to the Samsung website [google it !!) and download the latest version of the Kies software, {once downloaded Kies may again prompt you to upgrade it- accept it and follow the prompts}. Now, assuming your spyware/antivirus & spam ware is still disabled, use Kies to upgrade your Samsung Galaxy firmware. If you still have problems, remove your SD storage card, try again and if still no luck, take the bloody thing back to your Telco and let them fix it up (for a small charge no doubt).

I have seen this exact problem many times..........The key here is to first of all disable all of your internet security programs.

Next...make sure that you have fully charged you Samsung handset, (if you skip this step, you'll have be told during the final stages of the process - very frustrating - that "you need to recharge your phone to continue"....or words that affect.

Assuming that your handset is fully charged......go directly to the Samsung website [google it !!) and download the latest version of the Kies software, {once downloaded Kies may again prompt you to upgrade it- accept it and follow the prompts}.
