Root HELP - Every time I send a text, signal dies.

Help me out here, I am s-off, and did the hboot, radio, and pri flashes in the "fix everything thread"

I don't get the "message not sent" errors anymore, but still when I send a text it will kill my 3g, kill my signal bars, then in about 3 seconds it will all come back up working.. Just like before I sent the text.

Is there any way to fix this..
Thanks.

Did you do a profile update after flashing the new hboot, radio, and pri? It's not required but I did it after flashing mine just to be safe. I have great signal, speed, and reliability now. Try doing that and tell me if it gets any better.

This is what I did... Maybe it will help you.
Go to the market and download MSL Reader, and get the number its a 6 digit number, copy it down, or remember it. After that, bring up the phone menu and entered ##CLEAR# or ##25327# then in the top right there is a menu click that, after that click "reset". It will then ask you for your MSL Code, enter the code and click "ok", your phone then will restart. After that you should be good and it should fix the sms error. You might to to go into setting and click update system and update the PRL and Profile. (I didnt update the PRL and profile and its working fine, No error message!) Hope this helps! :)

I don't get the error messages anymore, like I stated in the first post. But I tried all these tips and still every time I send a message it breaks my signal, then a few seconds it comes back up. It's like it toggles the signal off real quick then back on.. Why.

This happens to me to sometimes but not as much, It has to do with the internal radios in the phone.. Do you have the one with the "Sprint" logo on it???

Correct me if I'm wrong experts, but text messages are sent via 1x signal, therefore the radio changes from 3g to 1x.

Depending on the actual radio firmware you installed, it varies how the OS interprets it.

I've tried all sorts of radios, and 1.09 has the least amount of visible change between text sent 1x and the 3g signal.

you need to be on ENG HBoot 1.04 to update radios. Various radios can be found here: [RADIO] HTC Evo 3D (CDMA) Radios [PG86IMG.zip] (Updated: 31 July 2012) - xda-developers

I thought SMS were sent without any data. Therefore of shouldn't have to change to 1x. But maybe all other phones do it fast enough the status bar doesn't have time to change.

SMS can be sent while in a phone call, and CDMA networks can't do simultaneous voice and data

Your right! SMS do not use data when it comes to sending and receiving text. So I don't know what he was talking about the whole 1x thing.....

Yes, thats affirmative
The phones with the sprint logo on it are more likely to have problems with the signal. Well I did a lot of reading and that's what I found, and when I had the one with the sprint logo on it, it would act up but as so as I returned it and got the one with Virgin brand on it, it worked fine. (after I did some FIXES to it like I talked about in my first post.)

This is purely a placebo or coincidence, the only difference between the Sprint branded and the Virgin branded phones are exactly that :the branding. Both phones have the identical hardware, software and firmware. I can state this unequivocally because I have one of each. The problem that you're discussing is related to the radio in the phone which is a piece of software that doesn't change just because of different silk screening on the outside of the phone. Also any substantive changes to the phone would require re submission to the FCC for type approval which besides the considerable expense would also be a matter of public record that we would all be aware of by now.

indeed. i have the real evo 3d that i MADE into a evo v, and i dont have any issues like that, as a matter of fact my data has never been faster and more reliable compared to the optimus, i wonder if some of the stuff in your phone's nam is corrupted or somethin?

What Rom are you on? I'm noticing this now but never before.. I switched to harmonia from mobstergunz and wonder if that is why

I have a Virgin branded Evo it does the same thing before and after flashing the radio etc, mine goes from 3g to 1x , the bars sometimes dip from full, rarely they dissappear all together
if i have 4g on it doesnt change
I watch signal notify icon it doesnt show any change in signal strength when sending a text

Has anyone switched phones? I'm still having this issue... I hate it.

When you talk or send a text your using the CDMA network and radio, 3G uses the EVDO network and radio. The 3 seconds it takes to switch radios is inconsequential, your signal strength remains the same it's just the display that's updating.

When I run a wifi tether it lags out whenever I send a text. It's not just visual.

I'm running Midnight also, sometimes when a text is sent my signal bars might fluctuate but the actual signal strength shown in my network info widget doesn't budge so I don't know exactly what's going on in your situation, as I posted earlier they are completely different radios. Strange to say the least.

So is there a fix that you know of? I know for a fact it messes with my signal and data after I send a text because anything I was doing on the internet prior to sending the text, stops. After about 10 seconds or so I can finally continue as I was.

This is completely normal behavior, many phones just hide it better than others.
The new Virgin update does the same thing.

And I don't buy the whole "text doesn't use data". It IS data, plain and simple. It switches to 1x to send it, I.E. data. 1x just isn't counted as data towards your limit. Voice is technically data as well (ever stream audio?), but uses a different system.

It's sort of like using a phone to call someone, and then using your old dial up modem to send an email. They both use the same phone line, but a different system.

On reason you see it, is that on slower phones, you wait on data to come in, then to be processed, then for the browser or whatever app to render it. On a faster phone, you aren't waiting on rendering, you are always waiting on the data. This is why the Evo V seems to have a much faster internet, even if it is the same speed or less than an Optimus V.

So simply live with it..? Because it drives me insane and would love to not have to deal with it.

I do believe that text doesn't need data to function... I can in-fact, turn off my data and still send and receive texts.. If we really want to get technical, even what we see from our eyes is "data" and it is processed in our brain system. The data that I was talking about had to do with phones, and what most people call "data" on their phones is the feature that allows them to connect to the internet. Or send an mms.
