You can root by either searching for and downloading ClockWorkMod or you can go here:

And get root that way. You will need to unlock your boot loader though. You can do that here:

The boot loader unlock is for both phones. As for root, it will be a bit more complicated.
You'll need to search for ClockWorkMod that was ported to this phone. I can't post it directly due to GPL related issues, but it shouldn't be hard to find it.
Once you got CWM installed as your custom recovery, you can find the CWM installer that installs root here:

That method will work on either phone, so that should work for you.

First off, thx for the tips....hard to find updates for this phone....just got it, and wanted your advice.....do I need to install superuser first? Some threads say the root wont work on later updates past 1/15/12 or thereabouts....since I have just got this design from boost (has ICS 4.0) do I need to load an earlier Os prior to going thru all the steps?
I havent done a thing yet, but interested in installing su and rooting it...just want to make sure I do it right! Also,,,,unlock the bootloader first and then root...correct?
Anyway, thanks for the advice and basically just want your advice on the order of the steps to take to load su, unlock bl, root, add wifi tether....hoping this is the correct order! Please advise and thanks again!
