I'm a newbie, I recently bought a Sprint HTC Evo 4g thinking it would be easy to flash it to boost mobile. I bought a program of Ebay but I'm not to confident with it yet. I have a bit of jailbraking experience but never done flashing or rooting. Is there a guide for dummies? plase help.

I am not that familiar with flashing devices, but here is a guide for you:

I also think you need to root the device first, so here is a guide to root:

If I am not mistaken, you do need a donor phone from boost but the guide will tell you about that.

you picked a very awesome phone. it is good to see that the og evo is still considered relevant now in this day and age where bigger it better with the s3/s4 and the note 2.
the guides that mikey linked would be the one you will need. please read, read, and read some more. one thing though is if you have questions on boost then i would post in the boost guide. we have a few awesome guys who have experinece with flashing the phone to boost. they have subscribed to the thread and will be alerted to when you post a question. i do not know much(if anything) about how to flash a phone to a different carrier so i can't help you out in that arena, but the guys there in that thread now their stuff.

use the link that mikey gave you. next you will need a custom recovery. you can find instructions for it in the dummies guide mikey linked. you can find instructions under the HTCdev method. i think it is step 2 getting recovery.
