Root Help for a first time rooter??....thanks!!!

when you rooted, did you have to go thru the bit about booting to the stock recovery?

Sorry, I really cannot remember for sure. I was so nervous back than I would brick my phone I was in half panic mode. But everything that you have to do is dictated by on-screen instructions.

On thing I made sure to was not to try to root from a Windows PC. When I was reading through examples of people rooting with AAHK getting into trouble it was always on a Windows PC and the problem was caused by USB Drivers.

Maybe he could start again, using Linux run from a CDROM? I used a Mac (ironic I know).

Hi guys, well I tried it again last night and instead of it hanging at the process where it says it's backing up and patching up misc partition, it told me to do some instructions but it didn't correlate with what was on my screen

IMG_20120829_212356.jpg

So not wanting to brick it, I just chose to factory rest the thing from the menu and be done with it for the night.

I'm using windows 7. Can't get on a Mac unfortunately.

Edit: I found that pic on google but it's exactly the same as I had last night apart the writing in purple.

It was something like press volume up twice and the screen will flash twice, then press power.

The screen didn't flash, and That would've meant I choose and press simlock, and it said nothing in the instructions about Sim lock so that's when I stopped and factory reset.

lol im close to quitting now!

when i run aahk now i get an error telling me either my phone isnt plugged in, usb debugging isnt on, or driver not installed.

Assuming your screen looked exactly like that, it is your hboot screen and it shoukd have prompted you to update.

Check your sd.card for pd98img. If its there, check the format of the sd. If it is not FAT32,you may need to backup the sd and reformat it.

arggh, pd98img was there a little while ago on sd card before i reformatted it to start over fresh, lol and now i cant even get to the menu. just says error.

even if i cant root this bloody phone, i really appreciate your time in trying to sort it out!

Later on today i'll be able to use someones macbook, so hopefully that might do the trick.

ok, just trying it for the last time on a windows machine.

im back at that hboot screen. i took this pic this time, if that helps (?)

And it's saying this

Did AAHK download a 200-300MB file?

Yep, and like Scotty asked, it also pushed the pd98img file to the sd card. I'm stumped as to what to do next. The sd card is fat32. I'll try another sd card, maybe that is the problem and it's broken somehow? but that won't be until monday now :(

You should see something like this.

I am guessing you get stuck after selecting Yes.

Do you have an anti-virus program running in the background? If yes, disable it.

yep, i see exactly that, downloads file, pushes file to sd card, tells me to hold volume up and power button a couple of times, and then it just stops at the hboot screen and does nothing.

Do you see this:

If yes, you probably have an anti-virus program running in the background? Some virus scanners detect zerg rush as a virus a block it . Solution is to disable it the antivirus program.

Found the steps you are referring to online (I actually do not remember doing this but I guess I did):

Steps:
echo 1. When you see the ugly red triangle, push/hold vol-UP and then push power to start stock recovery.
echo 2. When you get to the blue stock recovery menu, choose reboot and push power.

So you definately do not see a couple status bars along the top right hand.side of the screen, prior to hboot doing nothing? Do you at least see the green writing flash quickly, indicating it.is checking for.certain files?

nope, i dont see any of that. it's really confusing me.

and ral, I have no antivirus on my laptop and windows firewall is all turned off.

urghhh!

Is pd98img back on the sd?

ive attempted to root it again and afaik pd98img is on there because it was on there last time before i formatted it.

so im back at that hboot screen, nothing is happening again. but
mow it's saying sd card is damaged or not mounted, not in charge only mode, or not switched on read the ****ing manual.

echo is off

what's theother way to root this thing? iv had enough of aahk.

Okay one last checklist. Maybe we forgot something:

  • All HTC Sync and other phone/tablet software has been uninstalled from your computer.
  • The HTC USB Drivers for Android from the AAHK (/tools/windrivers) has been installed.
  • USB Debugging is turned on.
  • The phone is on charge only mode (if not the SC Card will be unmouted when plugged to the PC).
  • You are running AAHK as Administrator.

You can also try to Toggle Flash Method by selecting "t". This Toggles between fastbootRUU and hbootPD98IMG flash methods. Toggle to the other method (interface will say which one you are currently using) and give it another go.

If all this was done. I am stumped.

The good thing is Scotty, D-U-R-X and the other here did not root with AAHK, so they should be more comfortable helping you root it without AAHK.

Yep, I've done all of the above each time and still nothing lol

Anyway, i wanna say thank you to everyone who's helped me out so far. Really appreciate it guys!

the fact that you are not seeing the green writing flash indicates that the card is for some reason not mounted, wich seems supported by the error message below. if youve folowed rals checklist, and are 100% sure all things are as should be(charge only mode in particular) then maybe the prollem is with the sd card itself.

i do have a manual guide,if you would prefer to try that method. it involves copy and pasting commands into a cmd window and manually downgrading, and then manually running the exploit to s-off,superCID and simunlock.

this!!! :smokingsomb: great find,ral... i had no idea that option was there. definately try toggling to fastboot RUU as it leaves the sd card, proper name, and proper format out of the equation

after watching folks struggle with PxxxIMG files in hboot in various forums,i have come to hate that method. i find it cumbersome to have to move files on and off the sd,and the details are small that can make it fail- it cause alot of confusion and fustration until folks figure out exactly what is wrong. i personally always use fastbootRUU mode, and guides i write all use that method as well.

hopefully toggling to fastboot RUU mode will make a difference for you.

unfortunately the toggle flash method didnt work either.

think im gonna need that manual guide please scotty!

and if that fails, try it all again with a new sdcard.

and if that fails, quit rooting altogether!

Hi again everyone...I just came across XGS Series 2.4.3 Neos Team...anybody here have any experience with it?? Cheers

first,do you know what rom your phone actually shipped with? recent research has revealed that you should not use my guide,if your phone is new enuff that it shipped from the factory with gingerbread.

at the moment,im searching for a way to tell, and downloading the AAHK.

ral, since youve read the effin manual, does it indicate if there is a way to tell what the phones have shipped with?

apparetly:
-shipped with froyo= downgrade to anything,no biggie.
-shipped with GB and running older sense= downgrade only radio and kernel
-any sense 3.0 rom muse be downgraded to older sense, then donwgrade kernel and radio(or downgrade whole rom if shipped with froyo)

got to go add a couple of warnings in my guides
