Hi, i have a couple of questions on the Android software which i myself have put onto my HTC HD2 phone which was previously windows.

1- The phone itself has a Navigation program, and when i select the music tab in the menu, i have 3278 tracks which are all for the Nav program, e.g turn left, right!! How can i figure this out by perhaps creating a file?

2- My Hotmail is synced with the phone, and when i get an email it tells me, does this mean i am constantly paying for the internet and creating a bill for it on my contract??!

3- I have HTC Sync downloaded and i can connect my device however i cant sync my files it keeps saying please select a category, what do i do?

help a newbie thanks :D

Hi Dazzaj, welcome to AndroidForums :) I've moved your thread to the HD2 Forum, I'll try to answer your question but if I can't, I home an HD2 user here can :)

1)
So I installed a game from gameloft (Let's golf, great graphics btw)

Anyway I notice a bunch of sounds files were showing up in my music player I didn't want. Very annoying. I searched around here and didn't really find that much help. After some further searching around the net the easiest way I could find was as follows:

1. Open up notepad, don't type anything just go to file, save as. Change the drop down box for Save as type: select all files. Under file name simply type ".nomedia" without quotes.

2. Connect your phone to your computer, locate where the sound files you don't want are. In the same folder as where all the files are, drag the .nomedia file you made to that folder. Disconnect the phone

3. Reboot your phone, once booted open up the music player (you might still see the files there since it's cached) Go to the all songs tab, select a song. This will refresh the cache and you should no longer see any annoying files in your widget or playlist.

Before this I had to make a custom playlist and select that but everytime I rebooted I would have to select the playlist again plus if you add new songs you would have to go into the playlist.

Also if you don't know where the annoying files are, you should be able to hold down on it in the music application and go to details. This will show u where the files are located.

So I hope this helps some people as this has been bothering me for days so hopefully you don't have to search around as much as I had to.

You actually only need to access your SD card with a file browser like "Astro" and create a folder named ".nomedia" inside the folder you want the gallery or music player to ignore. :D

2) Do you have data? If you do, when anything on Android 'sync', it uses your data to do so. You can also sync emails/apps on WIFI as well. If you don't have data, you can go into phone setting and enable '2G only'.

3)What ROM do you have? Is it an HTC ROM loaded?

i would try that if i could sync with htc syn but i cant,

I flashed an Android ROM onto the phone along with other programs, im only 16 so im not really knowledgable of much technology

I'm not sure how many Android custom ROMs there are for the HD2. I just know it can now fully load Android. If you want to sync with HTC sync, you need an HTC ROM. If it's a touchwiz or even stock Android, then HTC sync won't work.

There are plenty of ROM's out there for the HD2. I would highly suggest you use a NAND ROM (one that is flashed to the phone, not loaded from the SD Card).

As for Data, anytime you have auto-sync ON, yes, it will use data. If you do not have an unlimited data plan, you need to set this to Manual. These are usually in the settings for the mail app. You can also check Menu > Settings > Accounts & Sync for Google accounts and Facebook as well.

Even if you have a capped data plan (say 2GB), syncing mail and web browsing, you'll hardly come close to that unless you get HUNDREDS of mails per day and surf the web like you are on a desktop. Even with my unlimited plan, streaming music from my home server and web browsing, I hardly ever get over 2GB per month.

Now, HTC Sync, I don't know much about this, but I have found that in order to use this, you need to be on a Desire or HTC Sense based ROM. There are parts of the core framework in Desire/Sense ROM's that allow HTC Sync to work. If you are running one of these ROM's, and it is still not working, check the ROM Dev thread and search, if nothing, ask.

As for the navigation sound files, try what Roze quoted and see if that helps. All in all, the default Google Maps Navigation is really good. :)

Hope this helps!

Maybe you can get an idea of what i have by me telling you what i did:

i changed the HSPL
Flashed a file called MAGLDR or something
Updated the radio rom
Flashed a DAF.exe file to boot android i believe it is called DFT_LEO_NAND_ANDROID

dont know if this helps

Hi, im back again.

I really need to find a program which will enable me to connect with Android to the computer as i need to browse my music files, can anyone help?

MultiMount on the Market is what I use (there is a FREE and Donate version)

Ok and how do i use this program theres lots of settings

Install it and when you first launch it, you get the settings. I just leave it as Default and not change anything.

When, put the widget on one of your screens. Whenever you want to mount the SD to your PC, "click" the widget and wait for the US symbol inside the widget is GREEN, then you can browse the SD Card in your phone via the PC, and still let Android have access to it as well. :)

When i select add widget to homescreen it doesnt do it and the program pops up saying it needs root privelages?

MultiMount does need root. Launch the app first, then put the widget on the screen.

Also, make sure it is installed to Internal Memory and not SD.

1. You will need to find your carriers APN settings. Google it, very easy to find. :)

2. Not going to be able to work around this unless:

a. You have the data files, in this case, put them on your SDCard, however, you will need to make sure they are in the proper folder.

b. If the games need internet connection, until you get your APN's set, you won't be able to play.

If you cannot find your APN's, let me know what carrier you are on and I can look for you.

Thanks,

Woah, wow. 16? you need to read (a lot) about what you are doing before you start to modify your phone's ROM et al. both here & @ xda developers. There is a good chance to make a nice glass-faced brick out of that little thing and most all of the questions you have (and will have) have already been asked and answered here and there... slow down, pal.:o
