Help HELP - HATE the Optimus V virtual keyboard

Hey
All new here ... if you dont like swipe you can turn it off basically rightt now i turned off every thibg but push to pop the keyboard up
this basically turns it into a computer key board with the numbers under th e top row and all no suggestion ticker or auto correct makes the thing sjumpy and its not always to second guess you which it has a horrible time doing...i prefer two thumbs because i typefor work and dont want to wear ol righty down
..
This also removes most of the auto capitalisation which is a pain specially inputting my email which i do about a trillion times a day

I would like some help with caps lock and perhaps removing the orange arrow which is about as stupid as it gets
 
I tried 3 different keyboards -- settled on TouchPal, which just came out of beta and is free in the android market for the month of October. But, even the paid ones had free trials, so it didn't cost me anything to shop around.

One of the blessings and curses of android is that anything you don't like can be changed, but you have to be willing to mess around and install different stuff until you find something you like.

One of the first things I do on a reboot is copy my email address and keep it on the clipboard so I can just paste it since it's the longest series of text I use regularly. It's pretty handy.

As far as keyboard suggestions; if you're not rooted with a Gingerbread ROM, then I'd definitely suggest downloading Gingerbread Keyboard from the Market. Million times better than the stock one as far as predictive text and accurate key presses go.

I was a happy Swype user for a while but after a few days it would lock up and crash because of built-up memory issues. I got tired of clearing the data every few days so I went with Gingerbread Keyboard (until I recently rooted, and now have the stock GB keyboard) in the Market and hadn't looked back since.

This is going to sound like an almighty silly question,but, where is the clipboard(how do I access it). I've been trying to figure this out for about a month now(when it comes to new things I'm a rock).

Haha, no worries. Actually the clipboard (in PCs, phones or any other similar system) is just the fancy term for the area where text is stored after you copy..so there's actually no clipboard feature, it's just the place in memory that the copied data occupies.
 
smartkeyboard seems to have solved a great deal of my typing issues. im still typo ridden when im trying to text/tweet in a hurry (driving, work, crazy gf over my shoulders etc) but other than that, landscape is perfect, portrait is compact. and the customizations are outta this fuggin world.
 
I really like the gingerbread keyboard from android market. But i'll stick with default as i don't mind it. I mostly use voice to text anyway.
 
Works great until you get to much background noise. Then a good predictive text keyboard is the way to go.
 
When I first started using Swype, I was almost certain that it wouldn't work for me. Now, I can't imagine being without. Truly awesome stuff.
 
I messed around with a lot of keyboards, including Swype, Gingerbread, SmartKeyboard Pro. But I'm using Thumbs Keyboard 4 at the moment and I love it. It's not a free app, but I snagged it when it was Amazon's free app of the day. I like the portrait keyboard a lot, except it only leaves about one line of the input box visible above the keyboard. Other than that, it's been a great keyboard for me.

Go Keyboard yeah!! I have the iPhone theme, Blue Future, and Gingerbread theme on my Go Keyboard :D
 
Perfect Keyboard Free is major on customization, including a slider for key space, width, height, font size, etc. and the ability to disable the "landscape fullscreen" thing that makes a huge textbox cover whatever you're inputting text to (which was a horrible idea to begin with). Nightmare for IRC users, I tell ya.
 
Swipe Beta is good but you have to be rooted to uninstall swipe and install the new one. Flex t9 is good. Currently I'm using touch pal which has been the best.
 
I've tried a number of keyboards and kept coming back to Big Buttons Keyboard. Then a few days ago I paid for an app (first time) and got the Big Button Deluxe. That works quite well too.
 
luckily, I don't text much. But when I do, I am pretty happy with the keyboard. I had a BB 9530, and it was OK but it took some work arounds because my touch screen had a little problem which might have been a normalcy on the BB's, it was harder to pick up my inputs from the bottom right corner than everywhere else on the keyboard. Therefore, I had to consciously make sure I pressed the touch screen there when I needed a chara in that quadrant. No biggie, I got used to it quickly and it became second nature. I am going to try swipe though it looks friggin cool.
 
after using the qwerty board from my Blackberry, it's quite a jump to use virtual keyboard. I'm learning to swype, but the one problem that irks me is the pop up each time I tap a key...is there a way to make it go away?

as for alternative keyboard app....does my phone have to be rooted in order to use those apps?

edit: I just activated my LG OV a few days ago... so I'm a raw noob...
btw-- why aren't there any smilies...??
