Root Help hopefully......

Yes. Let's say I flash mikmik. I go through and add my apps and bookmarks. Then I decide later that I want to try another and wipe everything and flash it. Now let's say I don't like it and return to mikmik. No matter how many times I wipe everything as soon as I flash the rom again it will load all the bookmarks including the ones I added before along with remembering what all my setup settings were for all my apps. Almost like the .zip is getting updated as I do things to my phone. Is just strange to me but this may be normal not sure. Is why I ask.

Is your sd card partitioned? The reason I ask, if it is partitioned, and your rom, such as mik, uses darktremors to move apps to the ext 3 partition.
When you wipe, and you do not wipe your sd-ext, and install new rom, your apps are still there from the old setup.
So thats why I ask....perhaps your sd card it partitioned and you dont wipe that sd-ext from rom to rom....

Your Google account does back up some of your app settings, and will even download any apps that you previously had installed automatically. But it doesn't sound like that's what's happening here. This sounds like you're missing something when wiping so that all of your apps/data aren't actually getting removed.

I don't use Google to back up anything. If that has ever happened it is a default action of a rom I loaded. I haveonly tried to partition my SD card 2 times to try to load swiperrat but didn't work either time. I have used my PC to format it and use Recovery to delete all partitions and data. The only one this seems to be happening with is Energy Rom. Haven't noticed this occurring on any others.

Since partitioning is brought up why should I do it? I see a lot of posts about it. What is a good size? The last time I tried I did 1024mb on both options but still couldn't get swiperrat to load. My first try left boot loop and the last got me to the lock screen where it said system UI failed.

Partitioning will free up lots of internal space when used with darktremors a2sd.
Some roms have that baked in, some have support for it (flash dta2sd separatly)
What size is your sd card?
I wouldnt use swiperrat in conjunction with dta2sd tho... I think that causes problems.
I partitioned to ext 4, swap 0, 2048, the rest fat32, but I have a 32gb class 10 card....1028 is sufficient for most...I overkill:p that's what I do lol.
Perhaps save what you must on sd card to computer and repartition it via recovery to ext 3. Repartitioning sd card will wipe card on its own.

Edit: this may help also for more info for ya!

Ahhh.....think that may be my problem. I was setting swap @1024 and nothing on the other.

Have 8g card with about 6g free. Don't have a lot on my phone.

Do have a nagging question. I am on Team D.I.R.T. Dark Light. Most of my apps work except Sprint Zone which loads but won't run. The other is a game Life is Crime. It loaded once but wouldn't open. I uninstalled both and tried again. SZ didn't change but the game won't install again. It shows in the Market but says not supported on my device. I was under the impression that the Market only showed was was for your device. Is that correct?

That is correct about the market showing apps compatible for your device.
Did you happen to mess with screen density at all?

Uhh....not sure. I turned off Auto Brightness but otherwise I don't remember doing anything that has anything to do with the way the screen looks. Actually I find a lot off apps now that say aren't compatible. Maybe I try playing with the screen settings and see if that changes.

Well, you would know it if you messed with screen density. Some apps dont function when that is messed with.
Does this app problem happen only with that particular rom?

Yes. This is the only rom that SZ hasn't worked on after it installed. As for the game and others I am an idiot....again hehe! The reason it showed up in the Market is because I was looking at My Apps which lists everything I have ever installed. Tried searching it and it didn't come up as my bank app didn't. One day I'll get this figured out lol.

But,that just means this rom doesn't have needed files to run the Sprint Apps correct? If so then is there a place i can find them? Don't care for any off their stuff except Sprint Zone.

Eh, yer not an idiot, sometimes I do silly stuff too...no worries:D
As far as Sprint Zone, I honestly do not know what that is:p Really, I dont..what is it?

It's just an App that Sprint installs on their phones along with all the other junk. The thing about this one though is I can *2 and bring the app up. From there I can locate the nearest store, contact support, view my account along with other options. Honestly it is the only App they put on their phones I use since Sprint Football got discontinued. Is the best thing about root is I finally got to remove all the Amazon,Kindle and other stuff I would never use.

Is the rom you are trying to use SZ on, an AOSP rom? If so, then SZ may not work as it AOSP roms are not sense. I think that could be correct.:)

Is ok I guess. I will just keep searching and see if I can find a ICS version running Sense. Or JB hehe.....:D Now just asking for the moon aren't I :D? Thanks for all your patience. I am sure at some point I will have more questions and again will probably be because of my not paying attention.

Have you checked out the "List"?

An excellent collection of useful info there!:D Thanks to ocn!

Got a not so dumb question(I think).......

Am tempted to just try the kitchen and see if I can just piece together enough to build a perfect for me Rom. Right off I am thinking I have a problem. The JDK mentioned shows for 32bit and that is all that is mentioned but I run Win7 64bit. Does that matter? I can Google the 64bit version I think. I am sure I had it before when I was playing around with Eclipse.

ooo, I dont know...never messed with the kitchen or JDK...Just the SDK for adb stuff....sorry. You're more adventurous than I am.:)

hmmm........

So any idea what would happen if I flashed a GB rom that has everything working and then flash an ICS or JB rom over the top of it? I know that sounds goofy but I have already tried with a Froyo rom and cm7 over it and got near to running out of space. Otherwise I didn't notice any problems.

I don't understand
Are you wiping before a ROM flash:confused:

Not really. It just hit me strange that when I bought my phone it had Froyo on it and HTC was able to give me GB with a simple OTA download. If they are able to change my OS with nothing more than a data connection I don't understand fully why I can't just take a bare minimum GB rom with working 4G,FFC,MMS and the such and just use a bare minimum JB rom to update and have a working JB rom with all the above working. Somehow in the space my little mind takes up it just makes sense. I give that what I did wasn't that great a stretch because both OS were designed for the Evo 4G whereas ICS and JB aren't. I admit that as many times as I can read about Kernels and such I know basically nothing more than they are needed. Is why I ask because someone here knows what major differences there are between the OS,if any,and would be able to give a very good guess at whether my phone just shuts down or if I would have a chance at success.

ha ha....I wish it were that simple to combine working parts of roms.
You should chit chat with a rom developer sometime and they will tell you it's easy for them to make a rom, then tell them to describe how to make a rom and your jaw will drop, and your eyes will bug outta your head and your brain will smoke at all the lingo they throw at you..:) It is, and will forever be, out of my comprehension on how a rom is developed!!
I could rattle on about my opinions etc, but developers and app makers should be outrageously thanked for their work for little or no pay.:)
Sorry for my small rant...my mind is too feeble for app or rom or kernel development....
End.:D
