Root Help hopefully......

Just did. Had to use Google Search to find it but got there and sure enough it showed it had Sync'd all the bookmarks that returned with Energy Rom which is what I have loaded now. It could be that as I flash others that I have loaded before I will find Sync'd data for them also. I do however know it isn't my sd because I happened to remember that I changed them and used the one from my camera to flash the rom. I thought for sure i had been unchecking that option but I found it again buried deep inside the settings of this rom. When I looked at Accounts and Sync it was unchecked. Didn't realize there was more than 1 place to do it. I am learning.

Knew it had to be Google. :p

Those options are there for your convenience, why the mistrust? I used to not trust Google as well back before I got my first android, but its really a great company.

It knows way too much about us, but in this day and age privacy is nearly impossible to keep

No mistrust just have places I store info and have used the same places for a while. I like them and have comfort using them. I just can't see what I would benefit by having more than one place for things. Kinda like why use Drive and Dropbox?

New question. I am running Blue Merge and the apps/games I moved to sdcard won't load the icon on boot. I can tap the default icon and they load. Like Adobe Reader. The icon is some green square instead of the Adobe icon but the app works when I tap it. I can remove it and add it back and have the Adobe icon until I reboot and it is gone again and replaced with the green square. Any idea how I can fix this? I am talking about when i add to a screen. The app drawer works fine.

is your card partitioned?

Yes. I think it is just the ROM. I think I have loaded this one before and this is why I removed it. It is the only one I have had this trouble with. Have also tried using Rom Toolbox to move them and get the same result.

try wiping dalvik cache and cache. also try moving them back to the phone and see if that helps as well.

Will do.

Another crazy question but what would happen or what do you believe from experience would happen if I flashed a Rom for the Inspire 4G on my Evo 4G? Reason I ask is I found one that is ICS and states the Camera works completely and since I can't seem to find one available for download designed for my Evo I was thinking of givimg it a shot. I know MIUI is suppose to have one with a fully working Camera but I can't seem to find a downloadable version that will flash. Every version I find to download asks for another disk or something.

Will do.

Not a good idea to flash roms made for a different phone, to the Evo.
Might throw you into a bootloop if it even gets that far.....;)

Is kinda what I thought may happen. I had it almost loaded and pulled the battery before it got through the Aroma process. So I will keep looking for one. I was actually more worried that I wouldn't have any service since that phone was AT&T and I am Sprint.

Edit: Although is a little late as I deleted the Rom I have another crazy question. Would it not be as simple as to copy the Camera Files from the Rom for the Inspire 4G and replace the ones for the Rom for the Evo 4G. This one of the few elements they share being the same Cameras. Using my logic,if someone can get Front,Rear and Camcorder to work on the Inspire w/ICS then the same camera Files should make it work on the Evo. So what am I missing about my logic here?

Ha ha , you are full of crazy questions! lol j/k :)
Its not that simple to take the camera apk from one rom and put it into a ICS rom for Evo4G.... I don't know why but if the devs have issues with the ffc on ICS, I am sure someone like me cannot make it work like that.:p

Oh yeah I have lots of them lol. But,I was always taught that it is only a crazy question really if you fear to ask. Otherwise maybe not so crazy. But,to keep with the trend one more for the road today:

Porting: How does this truely work? Meaning I went back and found the Rom again but since it isn't smart to just load it to my Evo how would I go about modifying it to work? I ask because I see a lot of ports from the Nexus and such and since these phones closely match......... BTW it is called Sabasa_Prime_v8.0 for anyone wishing to try the port. States it is fully working in OP.

Now about porting, from what my feeble mind can understand, roms from other phones are made for the Evo by changing code here and there and re-writing stuff so it will work on our phones. The dev work is amazing and totally beyond me how they do it! :)

Porting is tricky, time consuming, and very hard if the device its being ported from isn't closely related to yours. Its basically taking the guts of Roms that work on your phone and changing it out for parts of a ROM for anther phone.

Then you've gotta fix all the errors that result

I've got some personal experience here, and it was an epic failure :). However, I learned so much about how android works in the process. My next project is a kernel. Halfway started it and then school started back up

Also just switching camera.apk would do nothing to fix the issue of cameras on ics.
The problem here is to do with drivers, and and that HTC never bothered to create them for the evo on ics, so there is no source for the devs to work on/from.
Having to do this yourself would be too difficult/time consuming.

Saying that, the latest builds of jb from devs like preludedrew who does the evervolve rom, and jmztaylor have the main camera working at 8 mega pixels now I believe or at least 6mp with good quality. Swiperrat too I think has a relatively stable build of jb too.

Ok. just because I may be too goofy for my own good,or because I am near enough to upgrade time to go early I have a serious question this time.

Kernels......When it is mention about drivers, kernels and the such what would I be looking for? I flashed BlackIce Kangorade and found a Kernels folder with different things in it. Is one of them for the Camera and if so what would it be labeled?

I ask because I have been doing my homework since my last post. Well, enough to find phones that use the same Camera as what is in the Evo. Phones that did get ICS. Just trying to figure out how easy it will be to rip the driver from one of those phones to see how it works in mine.

Well, kernels are best described:

what is a kernel? a kernel basically communicates with and adjusts the voltage between the hardware(battery) and software(either sense or aosp) of your phone according to frequency. how much voltage a kernel decides to provide to and from your phone and at what frequency will depend on the type of kernels.

Drivers and kernels are 2 different things.. I am not familiar with that rom tho....what is in that folder marked "kernels"? Is it a setting within the rom? or a folder on your sd card?

Ok. Think I follow now. Basically the Driver/Kernel for the Camera is there to stay. So I would just need to take an ICS Rom from one of those phones and try to make it work on my Evo instead of trying to get what would be needed for the Camera from it. So...with that theory I bring a new set of easier questions.

The Rom will not be Sprint so I will need at least 3g and Carrier service so what would I be looking for there to get my data/call service working "IF" the Rom will load on my phone?

Next how do I go about moving Screen Capture from the Power Menu to Native Power+Home?

Is there a file I can flash that will add the Extended Settings in the Notification like on most Sense GB Roms or am I stuck with what is on all the ICS Roms out for the Evo currently?

The last 2 questions are just preference in UI and actions. I kinda like having SS Native and like the UI of Quick Settings over what is out now.

Whoa!:p Now you're talking dev talk and that is french to me:) Are you wanting to take a rom that you like that is for another phone and make it work for the Evo? That is out of my scope lol.

heh, it's been a long day and a long thread but, don't hate me for asking this...what is your desired end result?

You cannot port drivers from one phone to another.
As regards quick settings I don't think anyone has tried porting it. Again it would be too much work involving multiple system apks (mainly the SystemUI.apk, but there could be some to the framework as well!), a S4!7 load of smali edits and some other stuff that you'd need to take a look at.
Image resizing, getting correct lib files etc etc needs to be done for porting as well.
If you're looking at porting, first download dsixda's ROM Kitchen:
Search for how to port ROMs over on xda, there are several guides out there.
That would give you an idea of what you are trying to achieve
