Root Help! How Do You Remove A Partition?!

I was planning on flashing a ROM.

Basically, I created a partition for Apps2SD and I was unsure if it had created or not.

I used Quick System Info, and it said "information unavailable", so I'd assumed it hadn't worked.

I think it has worked, as I only have 14.35GB of my 16GB card remaining, and I'm sure I had a lot more than that available, even with the contents I previously had on it.

How can I remove the partition to make the SD card "whole again" so I can begin this process again?
 
Gparted live cd.

To save time download mini tool partition wizard to check.how many partitions you have. Do NOT use it to delete or create partitions. Visual aid only
 
Ok... I've downloaded partition wizard.

It seems that I have one partition.

It's a 16GB SD card and I have 14.36GB FAT 32 of which 16.13MB is being used.

I then have a partition with 487.84MB of Ext 3 with 38.69MB being used.

Does that sound about right?
 
Yes. Sounds right.

initially i thought quick system info required and a2sd+ script AND partition to give a2sd information.

Download it, it should read a2sd space and that will confirm its there.

The only reason I think it doesnt need the script is that mine gives a2sd space and I now only have a partition.

It says A2SD storage - Information not available.

Edit: Incase it matters, I don't have a custom ROM installed yet.

Hmmm maybe it needs any script.

Its just odd that without an a2sd script mine still registers...

Ok forget that then :)

Flash leedroid. It wont boot it the partition isnt working. (Or you didnt data wipe first)

Best to check with gparted though. if ti says its there, its there.

Its a chore as you have to burn to CD and boot into a linux live cd environment, but it is simply the best tool for the job.
 
What happened? Did you data wipe first?

If you need to repartition, GPARTED is definitely the tool you shuld use. Make sure you back up your data first, flatten it and start again.
 
To be honest, I think I might just cut my losses and try and put my SD card back together again.

I'll then look into flashing and apps to SD another day. At least I managed to root it successfully! :D

I've been doing this all day, so it's clearly not for me.

How to I put my SD Card back together?! :D

Installation Instructions

To install GParted Live on CD, download the .iso file and burn it as an image to a CD.

For other installations, please refer to the following documents:

All you need to do (easiest method) is burn the .iso as to a cd as an iso image rather than a data cd. If you dont have software that supports that, you can mount the iso in an application like daemon tools or virtual clone sheep so it looks like a cd in a virtual drive - then clone it.

You just boot to the cd, go through some options (keyboard language etc) and accept the defaults.


You could just try formatting ext from the mounts and storage menu in recovery though... if that cant format it it is definitely wrong. if it can, the partition is fine and you can put your data back on ready for your next flash attempt.

Just to confirm, you did read my faq's didn't you? theres information on why you may need to wipe before flashing a rom and how to do it.
 
I could be totally wrong, but I think I may have managed to do it via the phone.

I have just unmounted and formatted the SD card and it's increased up to 14.83GB.

I'm going to check it again using partition wizard.

Well, it only seems to have one partition and it's 14.83GB.

Have I saved myself the hassle of burning that .iso to a CD etc?
 
Providing you are going to be re-creating it via rom manager, then yeah...

Although I still recommend getting it just for the sheer hell of it ;)

Oops. Just thought I'd better make myself a bit clearer incase you didn't understand the jibberish I was speaking.

I no longer have the partition I had previously. I no longer have a small ext 2 or 3 partition that the partition wizard indicated previously.

Phew! My brain is so fried, I had no idea if I made any sense! :D

Do you mean I'll need to recreate the partition when I flash to an apps2SD+ ROM? If so, I know - and I'm bloody bricking it already! :D
 
Sometimes rom manager fails. I think your partition was probably fine anyway.


The process is easy enough. Partition with rom manager, mount as USB storage (not SD card) in recovery. Check minitool sees EXT.

Thats it.

Try redownloading the rom, incase theres a problem with the file.
 
its odd that the phone could format the ext partition.
it only sees the fat32 part of the card so how its formatted it is beyond me

It puzzled me as well. Strange stuff indeed.

The partition seemed to have created successfully, as when I browsed the SD card via my laptop with partition wizard it showed a partition - ext 2 or 3 - I can't remember exactly which.

I then unmounted and formatted the SD card and the capacity went from 14.3GB to 14.87GB. :confused:

I was as surprised to see that as anybody else.

When I browsed the SD card again, using partition wizard it showed the card as one whole SD card with no partitions.
