HELP! - Installing an .apk to system/app

Hi all,

I really would like some help!

I've installed a custom ICS ROM on my SGSII (Resurrection Remix 1.8.1) and am loving it! The only minor problem I'm having is that I did quite like the stock widget with the Samsung Firmware titled "Mini Paper", which was "postit.apk".

At first I tried simply running the .apk file to install the app but an error said "Not Installed!" after attempting to install it. Then, I found that some had to be moved to system/app folder, given rw-r-r permissions, wipe the dalvik cache and then reboot the phone for it to work.

I have tried all the above methods and the app does now show up in the system/app folder twice (one as the original "postit.apk" and the second as "com.sec.android.widgetapp.posit.apk"), but the widget still does not appear listed in the 'Widgets' list either on the home screen 'add widget' menu or in the 'Widget Drawer'

Can anyone please help?

I would imagine it's incompatible with AOSP roms which is why it's been taken out of the ROM.

If want some kind of post it note widget try colornote

Ah, well that's annoying. I've tried a few alternatives, but none seem to be quite as user friendly as the Samsung one.

I haven't tried 'Colornote' yet as it didn't look quite what I was after. So far 'seNotes Plus' is quite good, but just not quite there. I'll give 'Colornote' a go and compare though.

I also quite liked the Samsung picture frame widget that let you select multiple pictures from your Gallery and would present them one at a time in a resizable frame on the home screen. I take it this widget is the same and won't work with AOSP ROMs?

Perhaps related to where it is installed. On card/internal storage or phone. This can be a factor for some apps and widgets not functioning.

Thanks. The app is most certainly installed on the phone within the folder system/app/

On the stock Samsung ROM it was also installed here.
