Root Help!? Just bought an Evo 4G off of Ebay and I think it is rooted??

Most of the Sprint apps are in the Market. (or google play)

If it's the Sprint TV you are looking for you would need to flash a Rom with it and then back it up to Titanium Backup. That way you could restore it to the Rom you want to use that doesn't have it.

I personally just got it from the 4.67 OTA optimized Rom. It is stock but rooted and you can pull it out of it.

Okay sounds good, I will flash it in a minute. I have some questions about some of the rooted apps that came preinstalled... What is adfree? Also what is Superuser? And lastly, is there any way to get some of the Sprint Apps back?

Ad free blocks most ads. Open it up to update it and you'll be ad free. Superuser controls what other apps have accessto your root permissions. Anytime you open an app that needs root superuser will ask if you want to allow it.

Some sprint apps can he found on the market. Any that aren't there can be pulled ron a stock rom

I watched a video on youtube on both of those but they dont have a working front camera and 4g... are there any that you know of that dont have these problems?

There aren't any. It's really amazing we have what we have, since the EVO isn't officially supported for Android 4.x.

Hey I got some quick questions... I want to buy the app SetCPU on the market so I can get better battery life when I need it and better performance when I need but if I over/underclock my Evo can it be bad for it? Also I seen that it is $1.99 on the market (playstore) so is there any way that I can get it for free or something? I know I sound kind of cheap lol but I just dont know if I would use it that much but if I like it I will definitely buy it to support who made it...

There used to be a version that was free for members at xda-developers but I have no idea if it is available these days. Google for it.

But in general, apps are either free or not. That is just life. I think Google gives you like 15 minutes to evaluate an app. If you don't like it you can get your money back. But obviously that isn't enough time to evaluate SetCPU.

I honestly don't think SetCPU was very useful on my phone. I really don't think it helped to extend my battery life much, if at all.

It is available.. I mentioned it yesterday and someone put a link to it in another thread. I have the free app sitting on my SD card for my families phones.

Okay thanks and can this be bad for my phone? How should I use this? How far should I overclock it and how do I know when to stop?

If you check set on boot and the frequency is too high the phone will be stuck in a boot loop. It's a bit tricky to fix, unless you've got a recent nandroid, etc.

The max frequency for every evo is different, but not many can go over 1100.

Also over clocking will drain your battery faster.

The governor you select will determine how long it stays at the max you provide. With smartass my phone is under 422 80-90% of the time and only spikes up to 1113(my set max) when it really needs to.

With interactive X its up to the max roughly 25% of the time, so it eats up more battery that way.

Yeah I dont really think I will be using this because my battery life is already really bad lol oh and I forgot about flashing that kernal... which would you prefer out of anthrax and agressive? I would like something that has better life and same to better performance... should I use one of those or is there something else that fits that? Thanks

The flip side of the coin man is that you have these different governors that help keep the CPU at low speeds to save battery.

Also, you can underclock the phone to save even more on battery

I honestly believe AnthraX is the better of the two, but agressive freedom is probably better if all you are concerned with is battery life.

There is also a new kernel that just came out with SBC (superior battery charging) charging, but thats still in development so I wouldn't suggest it at this point.

When you normally charge your phone it will charge up to 100%,the light will turn green, and then stop charging untill the phone discharges to 90%, and then begins charging again. Throughout this whole process the light will stay green. When you take the phone off the charger in the morning it could be anywhere between 90-100% charged. However, it will still report being 100% charged. The sharp drop off in battery % after you take it off the charger is the phone display catching up to where the battery is actually charged.

SBC charging charges the battery up to 100% and keeps it there, so that when you take the phone off the charger it is truely 100% charged and you dont have the drop off.

Something to keep in mind going forward.

Okay sounds good, I flashed the kernal last night and I am actually getting quite a bit better battery life and performance but I will let it set in for a couple days. Is there anything else you suggest I do since I am rooted?
