Root help major key problems can't access recovery

Hi,

Please help (again!).

I have got a HTC desire phone. I rooted it about a week ago and all was well so i thought now is the time to a2sd to give myself more storage.

I did this successfully and all was well.

Tonight i installed a new version of Leedroid V3.3 the HD port one for the htc desire.

This installed fine and i was using it for about an hour no problems. Then the phone crashed and rebooted and leedroid said it was in safe mode. I restarted the phone again and leedroid again booted in safe mode. This time i actually turned the phone off (in the correct way not ripping out any batteries etc.!!!). And before the phone crashed the first time it did something strange with the volume like rocking it turned the volume up or down.

Now i am stuck on the HBOOT page.

I cannot use the volume keys and have tried everything - i cannot get into recovery.

If i plug in a USB cable it changes the HBOOT message to say that it is connected via USB. But i cannot see the phone!

I have seen on other sites to use fastboot which i have tried (I have the SDK installed) it just says waiting for phone...

I am now at a real loss as to what i can do? My phone is S-ON (which apparently means i am in a worse position.

Am i going to have to admit defeat and send the phone back for repair?

Could i do an RUU? Or will it not see the phone?

ANy ideas....

For the record if i get this working again...i swear i am never messing with it again!

Thank you for your help

Richard

Pull the battery for 5 minutes then.put it back and try to boot to hboot and retest vol buttond

either your menu key is stuck down or your volume rocker is damaged.
have you spilt anything on the hw buttons recently?

EDIT: just tested, if the menu button is held down in bootloader before it scans the sdcard then you cannot use the volume rocker

holding menu down also gets you into safe mode when booting.

this tells me menu button is stuck down or damaged in a way the device believes it is

I had just been washing up - but then dried up so sure my hands were dry before touching the phone.

I'll unplug the battery for 5 mins and see if that does the trick.

BTW just turning the phone on (and not holding any buttons) takes me straight into the HBOOT screen.

Nope still no joy :-(

Looks like a hardware problem then I'll leave it overnight fingers crossed it will be ok in the morning (please please please)

If i have to return the phone am i best returning to HTC? Or to Three? And will they know i have rooted?

Thanks again for all your help guys...all this rooting looked straightforward - guess i've just been unlucky.

Cheers

Rich

Tried my phone in the night and it didn't work, tried first thing this morning and it didn't wor. Thought I will give it one last chance and it worked...I am amazed, this rooting has given me two sleepless nights lol

Buttons noe working fine (touch wood)

Thanks again

Rich

Hi rastaman,

Thank you for your help again - i have managed to get the phone to boot and stay booted. I have reverted back to the Leedroid 2.5, I am still getting problems with my volume button - i assume this is a hardware problem and that i will need to send the phone back to HTC.

To do this do i need to unroot and restore to stock?

And what steps are required? And is it risky?

Thank you

Richard

are you s-on or s-off in hboot do you know?
did you root with unrevoked or revolutionary?
were you branded or unbranded?

you have to RUU this to return it to htc so we need to know more about the device before we can proceed

Hi there,

My phone is S-ON.

I rooted with unrevoked.

My phone was branded 3UK, but my initial backup didn't work after i rooted so i can't restore to that.

I am quite happy to return to stock and send back to HTC.

Thanks again rastaman you have been great, dare i root again once it is returned to me? Hmmmmm I'm not sure I think i have been a little unlucky with my rooting experience. can't beleiev that as soon as i have decided to root my phone has got this problem with the volume down button.

Thanks again

Richard

its not rooting thats your problem, its hardware, you couldnt of helped that.

the best bet is to put the 2.3.3 stock RUU on it and send it in to htc

Hi rasta man,

Just double checking I just need to download the ruu and run that I don't need to do anythingelse do i? My search key has stopped working as well so guess I need to do the restore ASAP.

Is it a common problem on HTC phones?

Thanks

Rich

yeah exactly,

not its not that common.

Thanks,

I have returned the phone back to a stock rom and will send off to htc on Monday if i can arrange this with them.

My volume down and search buttons are not working at all anymore, so it has to go back.

Will i try to root again in the future?? Maybe it was fun esp when i had fiddled with the sd card and could install all the newer roms.

Thanks Rastaman, it's guys like you that keep the internet full of useful information and helping us who haven't a clue.

Thanks again

Rich
