i'm not a big fan of that "all things root" section - it's too invisible
it seems to go unnoticed for a lot of people and it really doesn't have so much traffic that having them all in the main i7500 section would be a problem imo - atm there are 6 threads that have posts new enough for those threads to appear on the first page, were they in the main i7500 section

we now get (at least) duplicate threads every time there's a new firmware / custom rom version as threads are created in both the subsection and the main one
this causes information get fragmented quickly

imo the best structure would be to have the current main section (this) dedicated for stickies, with new thread permissions removed from all regular users and then have separate subsections for "all things root" (or something) and "galaxy lounge" (or something)

I have to agree with mrqs, the "all things root" subforum doesn't seem so necessary to me.

We don't have so much activity, so the separation isn't really needed. And it is a little confusing, because there isn't such a big difference between a rooted phone and a normal phone.

If we had only one forum, but with clear explanations in the stickies, everything would be perfect in my opinion.

Right now it seems like one person said "we'd like a subforum" and it happened without really checking if it was needed or not.

Should be someone who is active enough and not planing to sell his phone in the upcoming weeks ;-)

You could count me in for that, since its my secondary phone anyways.
Basicly iam willing to do it, but you might think about taking 2 ppl to have a backup if someone goes inactive for 2-3 weeks.. Afaik rastaman was a mod here and might be up for it too.

Who would be willing to become a phone Guide to keep the stickies updated?

i was under the impression phone guides couldn't edit other people's posts?

Afaik rastaman was a mod here and might be up for it too.

he also just posted that he's changing phones in august - of course owning a galaxy isn't a prerequisite to this, but it's certainly a motivator most would probably need

I think inFECT would do a good job, he's already taking care of androidwiki.de

I would be up for it too. There's not a single post I don't read, and I have a three years contract with more than two years left. I won't be leaving anytime soon!

Anyway, the new guide(s) could start new threads so they would be able to edit them, and then those new threads could be stickied instead of the actual ones.

Sounds good to me. I'll recommend the both of you.

I'm going to chat with Phases about this as soon as he gets back on GTalk.

If I'm not mistaken, you all also wanted the rooting subforum to disappear, correct?

Thanks.

And yes, we think the rooting subforum isn't really necessary.

ive got used to not being a mod anymore here as i didnt have the time or commitment to monitor the other forums
phases asked if i wanted to be a guide when my mod powers were removed but i declined as while i like helping people i dont need the extra responsibility or have extra workload that i "must" stay on top of

i liked the work i did here and it kind of managed itself for a while after i was demoted.
the base is there already it just needs someone more enthusiastic than me to keep it going.

Thanks to both of you.

I decided to unstick the Tutorials List thread made by Rastaman because he couldn't edit it. I posted it again and added some stuff then I locked and stickied the new one. I'll try to keep it updated for the few new Galaxy users that might stumble upon this forum.

I'll also be writing a whole new FAQ with much more questions answered, I'll post it when I'm done. I'll also rewrite my Galaxy I7500L guide for I7500 users, shouldn't be too hard or too long, and it doesn't get any simpler.

If there's anything I'm doing wrong, don't be scared to tell me! ;)

Excellent work, Mr. Guide! Make us proud! :D

Thanks! I added a new FAQ (the title changed from "FAQ" to "Faq", that's weird).

I'm going to stop messing with the stickies for a while, especially since the All things root subforum might be removed. I'll write a guide on how to update the firmware using ODIN, which shouldn't take long at all and I'll link to it in the "Tutorials list" (I don't think that there is any aimed for complete noobs).

I believe if the title or post contains all capital letters it automatically changes it to an initial capital and the rest lower case.

If you have some lower case letters in there it leaves it alone. IT'S TO STOP PEOPLE POSTING EVERYTHING IN CAPS!!!1!

So. what we are gonna do with the root section? Keep it as it is, or moving back the threads to the main category? (for deleting the sub forum)

Actually i like the root section. On the german forum we have the same structure and it works pretty well.

It kinda grew on me. I wouldn't care if it was removed, but I wouldn't mind keeping it either.
