Root Help me debug my hanging Optimus V

How can I debug what's wrong with my phone -- a 1st gen Optimus V? Or
more likely, provide info to the community to debug my phone (I'm
strictly an amateur w.r.t. Android.)

The phone reports "CyanogenMod-7.2.0-RC1-BACKside-IHO"

Three times in as many days, my phone has hung. The hard buttons
worked only so far as to turn the screen on and off. Twice I was away
from home and had to resort to pulling the battery. This last time I
was able to wait until I got home and rebooted the phone using adb
(sync;sync;sync;reboot). Before rebooting, I poked around with adb,
but don't have the requisite background to know what to look for. I
didn't see any processes named I_AM_THE_EVIL_ONE. So, what should I
look for the next time this happens?

I just read about the "trick" of holding VOL UP and POWER for 10
seconds to reboot. I don't know if that would have worked for me or
not.

Of course I'm willing to provide whatever info I can to help debug the
problem.

Some background, I had been running the stock ROM for quite a while,
but flashed with the Backside ROM on May 10. I was stuck at home until
May 14. So this MAY correlate with switching between WiFi and cellular
data. For anyone who's curious, what drove me to switch off stock was
the need for a VPN, and I just couldn't get any to work with the stock
ROM.

Maybe it's the screen rotation bug you are seeing. Is this happening when waking up your phone? Try disabling rotation animations by going to Settings > Cyanogenmod Settings > Display and uncheck Rotation Animation and see if this helps or not

try going to applications>development and check the box that says "back button closes application". helped my phone a lot

All that does is force close apps, useful mainly if an app freezes/needs closing for an error to be fixed...

At the risk of jinxing myself, the problem appears to be solved. At least it hasn't occurred again after turning off rotation.

Thanks everyone!

My close relationship with Mr. Murphy continues. Minutes, MINUTES!, after posting my "solved" message, the phone hung. I had typed in the last digit of my PIN to unlock it, and nothing..... All I could do was pull the battery.

Any suggestions? Re-install? Human sacrifice?

I decided to reinstall. The last time, I didn't clear the caches. This time I did.
