help me defend android

Android is open source and the limitations are in the hardware, where as with iOS the limitations are all in the software.

Huh? That makes it sound like the iPhone hardware is the end all be all, and android software is perfect. Considering the issues we've had with exchange on our phones, and stupid things like having to turn off forcing social networking to sync on wifi or else you can't check for system updates manually... I'd say there are plenty of limitations to Android software.

Apple doesn't hold a candle to Android. The only thing Apple has going for it is it's clean/stylish interface.. which I will say is spectacular. I have an itouch and an iPad and I love them, but I would never trust them with my cellphone... esp. because they're locked to a single, crappy network.

Interesting in that the only way you can operate a cell phone is through... ta da!! It's interface! An interface which, just as was history in computers Apple championed (notice I didn't say invented), for the most part perfected, then others have followed. Fortunately it hasn't taken Google a dozen iterations of following to get it mostly right, unlike Microsoft who's first really usable OS was XP (which blows interface wise next to Vista or 7).

Yeah, I like iOS but I need a phone on Verizon so I chose the Droid. If iPhone was on Verizon I'd probably choose that over a Droid, only because overall things like music/video sync and seamless operation is just that much more polished. As you heard said so often about iOS and Mac OS X... "it just works".

A computer that has the fastest processor known to man, enough storage space to store every movie made in HD, and enough memory to load every program without hiccup is really only a paperweight if the average person can't sit down at it and use it without someone telling them what to do every step of the way. Apple knew back in the early '80's the interface is what really matters... and still does.

You're arguing about a matter of opinion - there really will never be a winner.

Just congratulate him on having a phone he's happier with and say that you are just as happy as he is with your phone.

Agree to disagree, it's not worth arguing over.

Bingo!!!

He has a phone that he likes, you have a phone that you like. EVERYONE WINS! :)

You guys complain about Apple fanboi's but the reality is that many Android users act just the same. Don't believe me, visit the Captivate sub-forum here. IN spite of the many problems with the Captivate all they can say is "I don't care.". Where have we heard that before?

whew....after reading the thread title i thought android was in trouble.
glad its o.k....

I just told a couple friends at work who have iPhone4s that exact same thing today after teasing them about having a phone with a tiny screen and that can't make phone calls! But even though the screen is a lot smaller than on my DX, it's a nice screen. And the whole thing is very easy to use, and even though I tried talking my mom into getting an Android handset for her first smartphone (she's finally retiring her 5+ year old flip phone that doesn't even have a camera on it), she went with an iP4, and I told her that it probably is the best phone for her and what she wants to do and use it for. For me, my iPhone was too limited, and keeping it jailbroken and everything to get it to do was a pain if you ever had to restore it. But my DX, wow! It does everything I want right out of the box, and no more iTunes!

Oh, there's your "winning" argument: with Android, you never have to use iTunes again! God, I hate iTunes....

I've actually had a few friends with iPhones try to make a my phone is better than your phone argument with me. In the past I used to take the bait and point out all the things that Android can do, but iOS can't. Then someone asked me the same question that your friend did. I explained that the hardware is probably capable, but that the phone itself would most likely self destruct from embarrassment and boredom. ;)

Thanks guys... We weren't actually arguing or anything serious. It was just a banter back and forth in a gas station, and I think he called me out on saying it can do "everything."

And deep down inside, I know he is jealous ;)

Well!

If he thinks Android OS is foolish then has he ACTUALLY given it a go yet?

Tell him to go here and install android on his iPhone!!! HAHAA! THEN see what he says about android... if he does not like it then it is his choice.... but he has not tried it by the sounds of things:

OTD beats me to it!

Wifi tether pwns. Think about that op. It's kind of funny how an iP4 Can't tether to an iPad but an Android phone can hmm...

yeah last time I was hanging with an iPhone friend he had to tether through my phone to get data, pwnd. He stfu after that.

You think Apple's bad and restrictive, you should see how fast posts get deleted from threads in this forum for no reason.

You think this forum is bad and restrictive, you should see how fast Verizon puts a price tag on everything that moves for no reason.

You should trade phones with him for a while so he can see if it's better for him or not. At least let him him mess with it for an hour. You have nothing to fear from that. Does he?

i've had about 3 of my threads deleted in the past month... i guess im a trouble maker of sorts :p (well usually i make a joke and people take it seriously or use it to make personal attacks, conversation usually goes downhill from there :D)... i must side with OTD though, once they are deleted I'm usually aware that there was a reason lol

There is always a reason.

Just ask him right back if his iPhone can play any FLASH anything ;)

If he's jailbroken on iOS 4.x, then he actually can have full Flash, while us 2.1 Android guys are still waiting for it. The iPhone hardware is capable of a lot if it's jailbroken, it just takes more work to get it to do everything, and is a pain to keep updated. That's why I made the switch to Android, I get the powerful hardware paired with easy to modify software. Plus, no more iTunes!

i don't know how it is for anyone else but i have 2.2 on incredible and flash sucks balls

Flash has been on htc phones since 1.6 I think. It worked quite well for browsing sites. I missed that when I switched from the di.

Is it o.k to jailbroke iOS4.x just like rooting an android?..do not take this as an argument pls..My friend has an iphone and i tried to copy some movies(torrented HD) from my PC to his IP4..I installed itunes and things in my PC but it said it cannot play that file and some of the movies are not even recognised in itunes..after some trying we gave up..
If its easy to jailbrake and restore it back when something happens and claim warrenty then i can ask my friend to do it..
though if its not possible to claim warrenty then I can not suggest him on that

PS: I use HTC desire unrooted with 2.1 and waiting for 2.2
