Root Help me please!!

Okay so I had an Evo 4g with a root that I didn't do. All I know is the start up screen had a bullet going through the apple symbol and it had a snergy Rom. I had to get a new phone sadly because I broke my other one but it is still an Evo..I'm pretty computer Savy but I have no clue how to root my phone and I don't want to brick it plus I want that root back. My lock screen was AWESOME it had my pictures going every where until I unlocked the phone. ANY HELP PLEASE!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!
we need some info first before we can point you into the right direction. we need to knwo what your hboot is. so power off (make sure fastboot is unchecked, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot) this will take you to the bootloader. report back with what you see and we will go from there.
 
Okay did that it just powered right back on to the main screen...the rooted phone I can't look at anything on it because it is no more :( I know that my evo says 2.3.3

that is because you have fastboot enabled. go to settings>apps>uncheck fastboot now you should be able to fully power off.

yep revolutionary is from the unrevoked team. revolutionary will do all the leg work for you. you just need to follow the guide and you will get s-off.

What this will do is unlock your phone and give you a custom recovery to allow you to flash roms/themes/mods. This will not make your phone to look and act like it did on your previous one. This will however allow you to make the changes to it to get it there. There are a few additional steps to get it back to how you had your other one. Get your phone rooted first then we can go on to the next step and get you the rom you want.

Do I have to have my SD card in because I don't want to erase my sd card? And where do I find my serial number?

Okay I've downloaded everything just at the part where I get the key but I'm really hesitant because I'm scared I will ruin my phone lol

You will need your sdcard in to put the superuser file on it that is necessary to flash after revolutionary does its job. It will not touch anything else on your sdcard. This process won't touch any of your settings or user data. Your serial number can be found under your battery.

I haven't yet heard of anyone bricking their phone with this process so no need to be scared. Once you are done with it, you will see that it is a simple process and be ready to do it again on someone elses phone :)

download this and put this file, Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed on the root(not in any folder) of your card via usb cable

do I do this after I root it or before??

I know yall are prob like wow...she's so dumb lol

I got the key but the revoluntionary thing just keeps saying waiting on device...

Not at all. We were all new to this at some time or another. It is just much simpler now to do this than when I did it. :)

Make sure that you have usb debugging turned on in your settings and that it is set to charge only. You can put the file on after if you like. It is only required to allow you to use root only apps.

ok make sure that you have usb debugging turn on your phone. also make sure that you have it set on charge. check that you do not have anyprograms like htc sync or pda net that can communicate with your phone and interrupt the process. uninstall those.

Okay I don't have any of those and I already uninstalled htc sync and debugging is on
 
what about anti-virus programs? make sure those are turned off as well. and if they are then i would try and reboot both the phone and computer and try again.
