Root help me root in ubuntu

Relatively new to linux & kinda clumsy in terminal. Neither of the sripts in the root guide are working. They both just hang when waiting for device. adb lists the device as????????? and says i have insufficient permissions. adb & fasboot are un usr/bin. Also, usb debugging only avtivates when i choose usb internet connection, is that normal?

Found temp solution because i couldn't grasp how to write the perm rules.. sudo killall adb, reconnect phone, sudo adb devices, run root script
