Root Help...nandroid is getting stuck...

That's the wipe/format step. Also as squid said make the backup in recovery before wiping anything
Also with the new update to link2sd you just have to select what is in sd then select create link. It will move and link on its own.

OK, sorry, just to be clear, when you say "that's the wipe/format step" do you mean the entire set of instructions you gave me previously that i posted above? or do you mean the add-on that squid just gave me?

TIA!

OK...I went to download the harmonia ROM and noticed this:

Harmonia_1.7_OV_1+2.zip
Updated Picastics kernel supports old and new OV phones. (thanks to BigSuperSquid!)
Updates include Gmail, Superuser and Google voice search.
Still no Market 3.0
MD5: da2c2174eb2c369fca9519fa823a718a
Issues: Phone info says 1.6, not 1.7 not a big deal.

Do you know what it means when it says "Still no Market 3.0?" Just wondering what the implications will be...will market work on the phone with new harmonia?

Also, was reading thru a couple more rom flashing threads and i saw someone say that when you backup with TiBu, you should not backup system apps...but when i initially did TiBu (while ago), I think it got my user apps and system apps...will that be a problem when i go to restore my apps?

Thanks lots! will hopefully be doing this by the weekend, LOL!!! people to feed tomorrow, etc...

Just don't select the system apps when restoring. As for the market I've heard there are problems with the new market but I never had an issue, so it comes with the old market. You could always just jump right in to backside rom its a little more complicated to get it installed and setup but not much and Jerry has a very good tutorial in his thread.

I know that seems to be the consensus, LOL, but I want to just stick to simple the first time around. Just thinking about doing this makes me sweat a bit...i see lots of work ahead of me even if it is successful, LOL.

thanks lots!

There is really nothing to it. For me (and you :P), rooting the phone and setting up the recovery had me sweating and actually required work. Flashing a new rom is so incredibly easy. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Ummm, OK, here's an issue...Harmonia zip is 61mb...it won't even download to my phone...don't know why? any thoughts? TIA!

that should work just fine, just check the md5 after you copy it to the card to be sure it doesn't get corrupted during download or copying to the card.

I'm sorry, but that's over my head, LOL, what is md5? real techno idiot here. ;) TIA!

edit: i'm ashamed a bit at my lameness, but can i even open the zip to look at it? or maybe i'm making false assumptions.

Edit again:
I finally got harmonia zip to download on my phone directly, so will use it...

Ok, deep breath, hoping this goes well!

Hey Ben, quick question if you're available...(or anyone else, either, of course...)

I've finally got Harmonia on my sd card and am charging battery to full, waiting for 30 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time (I have 3 kids, so no guarantees, LOL).

I've read in a couple different places that with the xionia recovery, you need to "wipe three times" before installing a ROM.

Should I do that? What exactly am I wiping three times?

Also, in her Harmonia thread, LeslieAnn says:
"Latest Download and Install:
If you are not running an older version, in recovery, make sure to "Wipe data/factory reset" and in advanced, "wipe Dalvik Cache".
This is highly recommended for all to avoid problems."

Is the wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache the same step you have me doing that you called the "wipe/format" step? Just a bit confused, LOL...

TIA!

Yes it is but also the dalvic catch. I'm a stay at home dad of 4 kids I understand lol. Just do both those parts and you will be good. Make sure you do a backup before wiping anything just in case.
Your just starting so I would just wipe once. That's really just when going up to a ginger rom

You sure Harmonia is the best choice here? There is still a Market issue. Plus, if it's anything like it was when I flashed it, there was no file manager. So even if I added apps via sideloading there's no way to view the SD card to click on an app to install it.

Sorry.. I just really did not like Harmonia. A bit too bare bones for me.

Great, thanks! 4 kids, awesome...i'm thinking about number 4...:) My 5-year-old son keeps asking me, "mom, when are you going to have another baby in your belly?" too cute!

Market issue as in the market won't work at all? Are you just trying to scare me? LOL ;) I really wanted to try bare bones for a bit, just to try on the entire experience. I'm not a big bells and whistles gal...but if harmonia isn't for me, then at least i'll know how to flash and you can walk me thru Backside. :p

Judging from Leslie's latest post, the Market works but you cannot purchase anything. When researching something (let's say roms for example) there's a few things I look at first:

  1. The last edited date of the rom dev's original post (this shows me how much they update the downloads or just the information).
  2. Did the dev bother to type out installation instructions (easy enough for a novice to grasp?)
  3. The last three pages of posts in that thread (complaints, suggestions, and is the dev bothering to answer questions or did they abandon the thread).

Jerry passed all of those with flying colors, which is why, IMHO, he is one of the best rom devs out there.

Yeah, I am getting the sense that Harmonia might be more "buggy" than I could handle...I have just been reading for the last 15 minutes on the Harmonia thread and trying to understand the market problem. I really need market to work for me...

SOoOOoooo, now I'm rethinking which rom to flash, oh brother! LOL!!!

I wanted to use a ROM that wouldn't require me to change recoveries (i have xionia)...I've read that the recovery needed for the CM7 rom requires wifi to download and i don't have access to wifi...am i wrong here?

i was going to just stick with a good froyo rom for my first try...what do you think of Reborn rom? reading about it now...

I know, you'll say...just go to backside! LOL... but is it possible the required recovery won't work out for me? hmmmm...

thanks lots for your input and help...

oh, poor ben...he's helped me so much and if i don't flash harmonia, i'll feel like i wasted his time! ack!

Thanks, Ben...my concern is getting the recovery onto my phone, but i'll give it a try.

In Jerry's thread, he has a link to a recovery, but it says for "newer phones" and i don't know if that applies to me....

Maybe I should start a new thread for this, but I wanted to ask you and NoName what you DON'T like about backside...what sort of things i would want to be aware of.

Really, I like my stock rooted phone a lot...i love link2sd and the stock functionality is working well for me...EXCEPT for battery life (about 1 day, mostly standby) and lack of adobe flash. i really do like how everything else works and didn't want to lose functionalities (like the voice activate button) to "bugs" or need to deal with tons of new bells and whistles. So, considering that, do you think i should go to backside cm7?

let me know if you think i should post these questions in a new thread...this one is getting long and old, LOL!!

TIA!!!

I really like it all. There isn't really anything that doesn't work anymore the rom. I've been able to use the extras to soop up my phone better than allot of my friends. The phone works fine without even touching the extras though.

There is a bug with the nav though.

OK, tell me about it...what's the bug...what's nav? TIA

edit: and in jerry's thread, he says the voice button isn't "mapped." does that mean when i push it i won't be able to use it for voice activations? i looked at the thread he linked there about using a Button Remapper, but that's all way too technical for me....

I'm not sure about remaping. The navigation will say GPS lost looking for signal which can be a pain if you use it allot. Copilot doesn't have that issue but Google maps does.
