Root HELP! Need to remove cyanogenmod 7 root.

Lurker
I purchased a google nexus 4, off of a close friend, and they have the phone running with Cyanogenmod 7. We attempted to remove the mod before the phone was activated, but we were unsuccessful. We did it by holding down the volume button, and lock button while phone was off, but the mod is still on the phone. There really isn't much wrong with the mod itself, but I cannot pull down the notifications bar at the top of the phone. Nor can I see the time/date/signal/battery. the top is just blank. Can someone assist me with completely removing the mod? I really dont want it on the phone.

any help would be great. coming from an iphone here :confused::confused:

You wana flash stock firmware onto it. You should definately ask in the Nexus 4 forum for advice.
Are you sure its running Cyanogenmod 7 though? Thats VERY old for a phone so new.
You should go to settings, about phone and take a screenshot to show the peeps in the Nexus 4 forum

Yeah, If it's a Nexus 4, it isn't running CM7. So if you go into settings->about and look at your phone model, android revision and build number, could you tell us what that says?

Edit: Since you list your carrier as Sprint, I have a feeling your phone is the Nexus S 4g because that would be the only Nexus device capable of running CM7 on Sprint.

I'm not too sure how to screenshot the phone, but yes, it is the Nexus S 4g. I attempted to master reset the phone since I did not want the mod on there, but now

Mod Version - Cyanogenmod-7-11162011-Nightly-NS4G

android version - 2.3.7

Thanks guys. I appreciate the help.

Ah right. Nexus S is a much older phone than the Nexus 4 sorry. Youll want to ask a mod to move this to the Nexus S forum then and either find out how to flash it back to stock or get a newer or at least stable version of Cyanogen onto it

HI! So, I'm an iPhone user, but mine is currently broken. I received a Google Nexus 4G s off of a close friend, but he had the phone moded with Cyanogenmod 7.

I attempted to preform a master reset on the phone by holding the lock and up volume button, but the phone is still running with the mod.

I just want to restore it back to factory settings, but I cannot find any step-by-step instructions to do so.

The only thing wrong with the phone with the mod is that I cannot see the time/date/signal bar at the top of the phone, its just got the dots for the home pages. And you cannot pull the bar down. & When the phone rings, it rings but it doesn't give you the option to answer unless you click phone, and click return tyo call in progress.

If someone could help, that'd be awesome.

:(:confused::(:confused:

I've provided links in the walk through on where to get everything. It's kind of a cookie-cutter guide because the process is the same on every Nexus device.

Well, thank you :)

I'm going to attempt to figure this out, I'm at work so it's a little hard hah. Are there any certain apps on my phone I will need? I think when I tried to master reset, it messed up the mod.

I'm not actually sure because I don't have this device, but I have other's in the family which is why I'm able to help. It might look different though because Android underwent a major cosmetic look between 2.3 and 4.1

I see, I see. Well thanks!

I'll have to attempt this when I'm off work, I didn't know you actually had to download things to your computer.

Yeah cyanogen isnt just a "mod". Its the whole operating system on your phone. Like windows on a pc. Youll be fine and you bought a great phone

Yeah, and one of the files is kinda large, about 200-250 MB

How do I know if this fastboot is already on my phone? You gave me those instructions, and I was wondering if all that stuff is already on there, how would I know? would I just be able to follow from step 4?

fastboot is official name of the bootloader interface. So you have to have it or your device wouldn't turn on. As for the other files, they should all go onto your computer.
