Help on root and tether

Hi all, I've followed the instruction of rooting the Hero and everything looks fine. When I try to run the wireless tether for root user and I am unable to get it working.
kernel - 2.6
build number - 1.56
software - 1.56
firmware - 1.5
If I installed version Wireless Tether 1.6, it starts fine but my labtop only see ad hoc, not wifi router. Any other version will give me an error stating unable to start WTFR, please try again. Any idea why this is happenning? How do I know if my phone is rooted properly? TIA.

If you can boot into recovery and make a nandroid, you are rooted. That is a way to tell.

As far as the wireless tether, Did you install a ROM? There is a bug in Fresh 2.1.2 in which you have to install the SU fix in order to get any apps that require SU permission to work.
