Root [Help] Phone won't lock

Velocity 1.1, LG Ally. Sadly, it's my mom's phone so I can only imagine what she did to it. She mentioned that she had deleted some stuff because it was running low on space (she's notorious for downloading things constantly) Anyways, when hitting the end key the phone does not lock. I've tried reflashing the same ROM and installing stock theme. Any help would be appreciated.

Does the end key work in other places? Can you end a call using it? It may very well be a hardware issue, you can test this by running a logcat and pressing the end button repeatedly and checking the logcat to see if
A) its erroring out
B) its accepting the keypress but not doing anything
C) Not recognizing the keys being pressed

If its
A) Post the error
B) Try a stockish rom
C) Clean the button out (behind) with some electrical contact cleaner (with the phone off please)

Yes, it does end calls. What would be the safest way to flash to, say, froyo? Could I just flash the rom with the recovery menu that comes with Velocity?

And aLogcat doesn't show any errors with End, not that I can tell at least.
