Root [Help!] Problems installing ROM.

Jameth13

Lurker
I have rooted my phone and wish to install the custom ROM Aurora v4.1. After I install it my phone stays on the white screen with htc written on it forever (I think it's called the boot screen), I have left it for over an hour with no results.

I do not understand the requirements:

  • CM7r2-CM7-STOCK-DATA++
  • EXT4 Partition(for A2SD)
  • Latest Radio(recommended)

Or which version to pick:
Aurora v4.1
Aurora v04 (A2SD)
Aurora v04 (Data2EXT)with Data2ext Hboot(tnx to jullman)
Aurora v03
Aurora v02
Aurora-for Persian & Arabic users(by ce4arab)

The ROM:
[ROM] Aurora v4.1 [Sense 3.0|Android 2.3.5] - xda-developers

I have managed to get this ROM to work perfectly:
Oxygen v2.2.2 ROM | TheUnlockr
But I would like Aurora.

Please help,
James

Phone Details:
HTC Desire
Bravo PVT3 Ship S-On
HBOOT: 0.93.0001
Radio: 5.11.05.27
(need anything else, let me know)

You need a custom Hboot
an ext 4 partition on your sd card,
and the latest radio version.

Have fun reading the FAQ's.:D

You have to have EXT4partition or it won't load. I was stuck on this for a bit as well. However with miui xj.

he doesnt need an custom hboot if he uses Aurora v04 (A2SD)
only needs ext
radio is fine too

Could I ask a related question please? I'm in a similar boat to the OP, but I wonder

1) Does the EXT4 partition have to be a certain size?
2) Does the EXT4 partition have to replace the EXT3 partition if that's what you've got already? (I have 3GB FAT32 and 500MB EXT3 by the looks of it)
3) can this ROM fit on a 1GB SD card?

thanks in advance.

Well you'd probably be better with a GB of ext uif the Rom ships system to.ext which most do. Ext 3 should be fine but ext 4 is better (faster) than 3

How can I tell if the ROM has system to.ext?

Do you mean to say that I could use EXT3 instead of EXT4 for all these new ROMs? I thought it could somehow tell what the partition was?

Generally any newer sense Rom than the desire hd ports (some of those too) ship system parts to ext. Always if its a cm7 hboot version.

Looks like I am going to buy a new SD card to test these new ROMs on then, I only have a 1GB card spare apart from my 4GB that's in the Desire which has my stable version on. (LeeDroid 3.0.7) I'm a little too scared of partitioning etc to my card with my working version on. Benefit these days is that 4GB Class 10 cards are only ~

The roms are not flashed on sd card. Only any nandroid backups you have taken which can safely be copied to a pc just like any other file

The card has to be repartitioned though doesn't it? I want to be able to flash an old ROM and stick my current SD card in for a fallback.

If I got a new card >1GB I could format it properly with 1GB EXT4 and the rest FAT32.....
