Help Required Regarding the HTC Desire!

Hello Everyone,

Im thinking of purchasing the HTC desire. I can see from reviews that the phone is fantastic! I'm just worried about a few things..If you people can clear this for me it would be much appreciated.

First of all what is the Internal memory for the HTC Desire?

Secondly I have heared that the HTC Desire is not compatible with Memory Card (Micro SD), is this true?
If it is false, what sort of memory cards are compatible with the Desire?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Thank You.

1. You actually get around 140MB of internal storage for apps etc. Not a massive amount but I still have around 65MB left and have installed much of what i need. Most of the apps are quite small in size anyway and some of the bigger apps Copilot, Gameloft games etc only install a small footprint on the internal memory with the rest stored on the card..

At the moment you can't store apps on the Micro SD card unless you root (similar to jail breaking on the iphone) the phone, however this will change when the Desire gets the Android update from current 2.1 to 2.2 and you will then be able to install apps to the card.

2, The Desire uses Micro SD, most if not all are supplied with a 4GB card.

I was worried about the internal memory before I upgraded but to be honest I don't think I will have a problem with it. If I do then its a choice between rooting if im impatient or waiting for the 2.2 upgrade.

Don't let it put you off, its a great phone.

The internal memory is 512mb and the memory card that is used is the micro sd or sdhc card, the desire will accept upto 32gb.

Hope that helps.

p.s the desire is a great phone, you wont be dissappointed.

512MB is correct and did answer the OP's question of 'what is the internal memory' however I felt the need to make it clear that you don't actually have 512MB available to store apps because the Operating System takes up most of that space.

Thanks so much for the quick replies!!

I'm sort of a gaming person, therefore I will be installing many games onto the phone. Would this be a problem?

When is the 2.2 update going to be available? Does this website have like game downloads fo the Desire? Like specific files for specific games?

Thank You.

Edit: Are the games free to download onto the Desire?

There are lots of free games available in the android market, and lots of paid ones too... your major consideration should be the battery, which lasts only a day or slightly more on average.

Yeh I understand that the battery wouldnt last long. Anyway are you guys on contracts or Pay As You Go?

If on contract, which network you on and what priceplan are you on? (Minutes, Contract Length)?

Thank You.

I'd say for a smartphone if you want to use any internet you need to go on a contract. Could cost a fortune on pay as you go for data.

I use t-mobile, unltd txt, 100 minutes, unltd (3gb fair usage) mobile internet for

If gaming is your priority, keep in mind that the iPhone is a stronger gaming platform than Android at the moment. You might be disappointed with the Desire, as gaming is one of the areas where the iPhone wins (with a larger selection of games with high production values).

The Desire is a fantastic phone in almost all areas, but it's not the best gaming phone.

I'm in Dubai, and there's no concept of contract phones here yet.. All unlocked and sim free to buy.. (Except the blackberrys and iphones)

About the iphone being a better gaming phone, yes at the moment there are more games for the iphone than for android. But I reckon that can change.
Bear in mind the hardware of the Desire is very good already and games work beautifully. The release of 2.2 will see even better framerates, so it's just just a question of availability of games.

I'm not sure the Desire will able compete with the iPhone in terms of gaming any time soon. As far as I know, the Desire's hardware is not focused in that direction (other phones like the iPhone and Galaxy S have better GPUs). But more importantly, the big game developers won't be tempted to develop for Android any time soon, as it's much harder to develop hardware-intensive applications for a platform that's so fragmented, with dozens of different devices with different hardware abilities. It's also easier for developers to earn money through the Apple app store i.e. it's no secret that the Android market still needs some work.

Not sure about that, in fact i think the opposite. The larger game devs are bringing/have brought games to android. Think about EA and gameloft for example, as well as many of the smaller studios porting their games over.

Different colours i believe, the normal is one called "brown" although i think it looks more like purple lol and the graphite is black.

You peope on this forum are so helpful! It has to be said!

Im sure my contract ends in September, so I need to give 3 a ring and enquire about an upgrade to the Desire. They better give me a good deal, I have been them for a loong time!!

Hi, Iam on Tesco sim only plan as I purchased my phone, I pay

i'm on contact, but my contract came with a hero, and i bought this phone so it wont be much good to tell you it :p

In the future tho, I'm probably going to go with a non contract deal and buy my phones. All depends on what orange offer me as I can always sell the upgrades they give me to fund the contrac!

Try to give them the impression that you could, if you wanted, switch carriers - they may give you a better deal :p

That may be the case now, but it wasn't when i got the phone.

If you phone 3 and tell them you want to leave, they'll offer you a new deal and handset you want generally. They did that with me, but they couldn't beat t-mobiles deals at the time. So glad I went to t-mobile too, much better.

How many months is your contract?
