Root Help Required - Rooted 1.5 Hero

antiville

Lurker
Hi there, I recently bought a Hero (originally T-Mobile branded but now unlocked - although I am using it on T-Mobile) on ebay which is stated as having been rooted. The settings show -
Firmware version - 1.5
Baseband version - 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26
Kernel version - 2.6.27-mck-teknologist-1.92 root@neutrino
Build number - MoDaCo custom rom 3.2 core
Software version - 1.0.0.A6288

I am completely clueless with all this info and I'm not sure how to get the best from the phone. I've been looking for certain apps in the android market (ebay etc) which don't appear to be available as a result of being on 1.5 firmware. Any advice about what I should do about this would be greatly appreciated - how to go back to stock settings or how to get a newer version of android would be great, and if it could be described to me in as simple terms as possible then that would be great....thanks.

Please note: updating firmware will wipe your internal memory - backup all essential data before proceeding.

1. Download and install the latest version of HTC Sync from here.

2. Download the most recent 1.5 update for T-Mobile devices from here.

3. Connect your Hero to the PC with the supplied USB 2.0 cable and run the update program downloaded above.

4. Once the phone has restarted you can go to Settings/About phone/Software updates and check for the Over-The-Air updates to the most recent stock 2.1update-1 level.

Hope this helps.

Thank you so much, finally got my hero updated after major probs trying to get the phone to be "seen" by the updater. Now to decide if I actually need to root - is there any way to install apps onto the sd card instead of the internal memory without root?
Thanks again :D
