Root HELP [rom problem]

camf3xu

Lurker
i looked for the right place to post this and really couldnt find one. hopefully someone here will see this and be able to help me.

I decided to try and change the rom on my lg optimus v for virgin mobile. I dl'd gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip (from [ROM][WIP][ALPHA] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+ (Gingerbread) - xda-developers )to my pc, and turned on usb mass storage. i went to f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card, and installed the rom.

now to the problem

when it turned back on it looks nothing like the rom, just my default rom but without any apps but the super basic apps for the phone (no junkware either) and superuser. no marketplace or rom manager.

i tried going to settings/accounts & sync settings and adding my account. then it says add an exchange account. i put my gmail email in and then it goes to server settings for my email... its all allready filled out so i just hit next and then it says setup cannot finish, unable to open connection to server.

if someone could help me through this or at least try i would really appreaciate it, my phones bascially useless untill then.

Hi there... Welcome to the forums!

you may want to try in the LG Optimus V forum - LG Optimus V - Android Forums

The people in there would be able to give you specific handset advice! :)

thanks, hopefully someone over there can help me :\
stuck in clockwork recovery now b/c i trie dto reset factory defaults. ill repost.

It doesn't sound like you even flashed the rom. "gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip" is just a zip of the basic google apps that you need, such as market and downloads. It's not the rom.

You need to download the zip of the ROM. They suggest doing it through ROM manager, but I haven't had any luck with that. Try this post, it has the link to the zip of the rom: xda-developers - View Single Post - [ROM][WIP][ALPHA] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+ (Gingerbread)

The second link is the one with the camera fixed, if you want to give that a try. The camera doesn't focus on the 5/31 and the 6/1 versions, so you'll just have to decide if that's important to you or not.

Wipe data/cache in clockwork recovery. Then flash the "aospCMod-VM670-20110601-signed.zip" file (or the one if the camera fix if you choose that). And then flash gapps. Then you should be able to restart your phone with your new rom.

I've read to many...not so good things about ROM manager. But have read quite a bit about flashing recovery's and ROM's,all of which can be found in these threads(even if some don't appear to be about this topic some often due get around to it). It sounds like a little fore knowledge of the subject at hand(flashing a recovery, and changing your ROM) couldn't hurt matters. Maybe while your waiting further help(if Marialle's suggestion's didn't provide a solution) you could cruise the threads here and see if you could pick up something useful. Wish I could help but alas:I'm just a "Nuub" myself.
