Help HELP [rom problem]

camf3xu

Lurker
I decided to try and change the rom on my lg optimus v for virgin mobile. I dl'd gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip (from [ROM][WIP][ALPHA] aospCMod | AOSP 2.3.4 / CM7+ (Gingerbread) - xda-developers )to my pc, and turned on usb mass storage. i went to f:/download/root and put the file in there. Then opened it in root manager clicked install from root sd card, and installed the rom.

now to the probelm

when it turned back on it looks nothing like the rom, just my default rom but without any apps but the super basic apps for the phone (no junkware either) and superuser. no marketplace or rom manager.

i tired to do a factory reset. and im now stuck in clockwork recovery mod. I tried to go to backup/recovery and install the backup i made before i tried to flash my os, let it do its thing, then after it installed, it went right back to clockwork. :[

you never realized how terrible it is to not have a phone untill it happens...

Ok for the future do NOT use rom manager for the OV. It causes many people problems such as yours. If your in Clockwork your need to format your memory and try to install the rom again.

Format your SD card and put the zip onto the sd card and put it in and reboot in to clockwork. using the volume keys, you are able to navigate up and down. Navigate down to the menu item that reads "mounts and storage." Navigate down and press "Format Data" then "Yes." Next do the same thing except format system. Using the power button to go back to a previous menu, return to the "mounts and storage" menu, make sure the sdcard is mounted. (If your sdcard is mounted, you will see the option to 'unmount /sdcard'. If it is not mounted you will see 'mount /sdcard'. In this case you would want to press the 'mount /sdcard' option in order to mount it. Again using the power button as the back button, navigate back to the main menu. You will see a menu item that reads "Install zip from sdcard." Select it. Now select 'choose zip from sdcard.' Now pick the zip you placed on the sdcard earlier. Scroll down to the 'Yes' option and select it. Clockwork Recovery will begin flashing the image to your internal memory. After a few minutes, the process should complete and you will see a message that says 'Done. Installation Complete.' From here you should remove your sdcard and navigate back to the main menu. Select the 'Reboot Now' option and you should boot into your new rom.

hey thanks alot for your response. i just tried that and after i said reboot now, it booted into clockwork recovery again. I have a few ?'s that might solve this.when i moved the file from my pc to phone was i suposed to put it in downloads/root ? and is that the correct file for a rom? im suposed to get the zip, not the image right?

I have never heard of removing your sdcard during a ROM update, not sure why you would want to. Be sure you don't have clockworkmod 3.2.0.0, you need an older version like xionia or the version posted by aosp in his threads.

You want to put the asopCMod zip file on the root of your sdcard, which means:

/sdcard

Same with the gapps zip file. Once there, reboot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik cache, then choose install zip from sdcard and select the aospCMod zip file, then choose install zip from sdcard and select the gapps zip file. Then reboot.

Just drag and drop onto your SD card don't put it into any folders just on the SD card itself. What version of clockwork are your using?
