Help: Root + Sd recognition, SGS2

lostphc

Newbie
Hello everybody,
I have this annoying problem with my sgs2 (4.0.3)
I have rooted my terminal using odin and everything and I have not installed any rom.
The problem is this: apps previously installed in my external sd card won't be read/recognised; I cannot move apps to sd with any program; apps are still present in my ext sd (occupy memory, I can see them in settings/apps); n7player can play music present in the sd.

Possible problems (some ideas I got from surfing the web): permissions, change of ext. sd location..
Possible solutions: none (formatting the sd is not a solution, it won't be recognised anyway I think)

Help

Thanks, hopefully :o
I have a GT-i1900

I have tried to enter recovery mode, make a backup of data and fix permission and as a result I lost all my multimedia; edit: media recovered, primary problem persisting

Nope, the sd is still full of data (multimedia is stored in internal sd, not external) but I read in other topics that formatting it may not change anything since it is a problem of recognition by the system..

Do you have a reader for your PC? Can you backup all the media, format the card and reload it all? If not, perhaps get another card to load it on. Or, is your phone just not reading any Sd card?

I didn't try with another (unluckily I don't have another one) but I may still try to format mine if you think it is a problem of sd card.. the reason I didn't do it is that I thought it may be a problem of the terminal more than a corruption of the card :dontknow:

Well, formatting will erase your card, so before you do that, back it up somewhere. When you talk about "terminal" are you referring to the one on your phone or PC?

On my phone, I am just going to format my sd card and hope for the best, I will let you know as soon as possible about it..

Do you think that rerooting/unrooting my phone could solve the situation? I also have a yellow triangle with an esclamation point when I turn on my phone, is it normal?

Okay, before you do anything else can you tell us exactly which method you used to root?

(The yellow triangle on the boots screen means you have loaded custom firmware. It acts as a flash counter for Samsung and the carriers to see if you have modified your device. We can get rid of that later, if you'd like, but for now let's just deal with your current issues.)

Sounds like you're going into the stock recovery and not a custom one like Clockwork. Have you downloaded ROM Manager and flashed Clockwork Mod Recovery yet?

Edit: NM my post, listen to Lunatic.

Yes, I couldn't post links I guess so i will put an N between htNtp://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s2-i9100-icsandroid-4-0/

I followed every step without making changes..

Okay ... first thing is DON'T USE ROM MANAGER! If you already have then that's part of your problem. ROM Manager does not play nice with Samsung phones and it will bork your custom recovery faster than ... something really fast.

Now, you have not flashed ICS or any other custom rom, you have only rooted using the methods listed on How to Root Galaxy S2 i9100! [ICS][Android 4.0+]. Right?

Now, can your phone see the external sd card? go to menu>settings>storage and see if it is listed. You'll probably have to scroll to the bottom to see it.

Finally, exactly how did you move/install apps to your external sd card?

sorry to be a little redundant but I want to make sure I've got the complete picture.

I only followed those steps, that's right. I used Titanium (only installed it and gave it permissions, no backup up to now), AdFree and nothing else before I realized that some apps were missing (the ones on the sd card)

I can see both sd card and the memory left in it in settings/storage

I moved them by many different programs (android assistant, settings/apps/move to sd) and others similar.. now if I try to move an app from sd to phone (I may do it, apps are present with names like "com.instagram.andrid or com.halfbrick.fruitninja and occupy memory) the system tells me that I cannot move the application because it doesn't exist.. viveversa if I try to move an app from the phone to sd it only tells me that it is impossible..

Okay, try this ... pick one of the lesser used apps that isn't working for you and go to the Play Store and install it again. If it tells you it's already installed, then uninstall it and reinstall. Then use Android Assistant to move that app to the sd card.

I tried with fruit ninja and temple run:
I downloaded Fruit ninja (full version, bought, results as acquired in the play store and data is still present) without deleting the one present in the sd card.. the app didn't start the first time, freezing in the loading page, but it started the second time, still without deleting the file on sd card.
What happened at this point is pretty interesting: fruit ninja is not present in sd card any more but it has moved to the telephone memory.. to be sure of this process I also tried with instagram and the same thing happened. Next thing I did was deleting instagram from the telephone and as a result I don't have instagram any more in my sgs2 and in my sd..

I downloaded Temple Run after I deleted it from sd card. It works fine

Both of them cannot be moved to sd :s:

One more thing you may find interesting is that in menu-my files I can still see "external_sd" and open it and I can also open folders in it and look at videos saved in the external sd or listen to music in those folders.. so the telephone recognises a part of my ext sd but doesn't run/read apps..

I tried to move a few apps using Android Assistant and it put them in /sdcard, not /sdcard/external_sd. The first is the internal sd partition while the second location is the physical SD card.

Did you by chance move the folders from internal to external before you rooted?

Ok I may have found an issue but I strongly need your assistance before I proceed and sorry for posting trice:
I installed CF-Root-SGS2_XX_XEO_LPQ-v5.3-CWM5 but my kies tells me I have the most recent version of the firmware that is:
PDA:LPF / PHONE:LPX /CSC:LP6 (ITV) [ITV should be for Italy, don't know if it matters anyway]

Now my question is: do you think I should try to reroot my phone using one of these?:

CF-Root-SGS2_XX_NEE_LPD-v5.5-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXX_LPE-v5.5-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXI_LPF-v5.5-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_LPW-v5.5-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_XW_NEE_LPG-v5.5-CWM5.zip
CF-Root-SGS2_UH_UVC_LPK-v5.5-CWM5.zip

if you suggest me to do it, what should I pick up?

I tried to move a few apps using Android Assistant and it put them in /sdcard, not /sdcard/external_sd. The first is the internal sd partition while the second location is the physical SD card.

Did you by chance move the folders from internal to external before you rooted?

Nope, you are right: all app folders are saved in /sd and /external sd is inside sd.. and I cannot access files inside apps folders in sd, while I can still access documents without any issue, thus I cannot access apps' files but I can access documents saved in the /sd folder

If you go to menu>settings>about phone what does it show for baseband version, kernel version and build number?

I am thinking that the CF kernel you flashed installed a new modem (baseband) too since they seem to match somewhat. Your Build (Android version) is XWLPF so you probably should have flashed CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OXI_LPF-v5.5-CWM5.zip

Download and reflash that (I don't think you have to return it to stock first.) and then let me know what the baseband, kernel and build are.

lunatic please look at this: [13.06.2012][CF-Root 5.5] K/EFGHIJKLP*, LA*, LP-126BHJQ73SC89DEFWGK - su+bb+CWM4/5 - xda-developers

from version 5.4 on:
- SuperSU (replaces Superuser)
- "Fake-secure" (ro.secure=1, but ADB is patched to run as ro.secure=0)
- Fixed ICS SD card issue
do you think that's it? May it be that I have all this mess because I installed version 5.3? (how unlucky :( )

I didn't see what the SD card issue was, but if you can find the right version, It' certainly is worth a try.
