Root Help rooting and flashing

So I've decided that the way to go is to root and flash a custom ROM..even if ATT releases a 2.2 update. However, after reading on XDA, viewing the vids, I just don't trust myself-or feel like doing it myself. Anybody know of a service that would provide this help on a paid basis?
 
Don't worry, it is MUCH easier than you fear it is. I did it for my first time a few weeks ago, and have since Odin'd back to stock and rooted flashed yet another ROM out. This is the userguide that I used, and followed it step by step. It is REAL easy. Just don't skip anything, and do it exactly as it says.

Thanks for the link..it looks pretty straightforward. At any time do you remove the sim and micro SD card or do it all while they are still in the phone?

Before flashing...

Turn off phone
Remove battery, SIM and SD card
Reinstall battery only
Reinstall SIM and SD card after flash completes.
 
It's missing the 4th file.

All I want to do is root so I can restore my backup files/apps. Is this what I need to do or is there a better way? I can't side load onto an AT&T phone.
