Root HELP Save EVO from being tossed

Lurker
OK for many months I have tried everything i could find i may have really bricked my htc evo. It all started with a boot loop after many different methods I am at my wits end. Now i can only get to a white screen that reads supersonic s-off hboot 2.10.0001 radio 2.15.00.11.19 oct 15 2010 12:07:00. then highlighted in orange is ruu. i can use the ruu utility but at the end it gives me a 110 and say i need a complete file.

can this be fixed? Or should I just throw it in the ocean?

Please help me I really Hate my Epic 4G and would prefer the evo

Thanks to anybody willing to help. And yes Ive used google, and read all the search postings but now my hands are in the air

That is very easily fixable.

Sounds like you have a bad pc36img file on the card. Take the card out, connect to a card reader on a pc. Download clockworkmod or amon ra recovery pc36img, and place on the root of the sd card. Reboot, and that should flash. Then reboot into recovery, mount the phone to a pc, and put a rom on the card, then flash it.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i moved this thread to the rooting section.

do you have recovery? if not then do as suggested by sitlet.

There is only one question really. Can you hold down vol-down and boot and get to the hboot? If yes you have a non-bricked device. If no there may still be options.

If yes, connect the external card to another device and get a rooted or unrooted pc36img.zip and drop it into the root of the card. Place the card in the phone and boot into hboot it will immediately ask you (ok after some validation) if you want to install from the pc36img.zip. Say yes.

You can get the stock pc36img.zip image and just unroot the phone, then just re-root it and have a fresh start.

Good luck.

Thank you to everybody

When i hold down the vol-down and pwr buttons i only get a plain HTC logo in the center surrounded by 4 triangles w a ! in it on each corner of the screen

any idea where to find a good pc36.img

ok im reading it now however, my hboot reads as 2.10.0001 for the beta key will should i select the 2.15.00.

NOOOOOO. you already are rooted right? you do have s-off? just head to the switching recoveries section. no need to re-root and it will not work with your hboot anyways.

yes back when i first roted it i used the unrevoked 3 and ended fine with the s-off when i used a different rom was when all went to ....

ill continue reading. thank you

New Developement on a whim i used RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed .exe this time it actually went through 100% thanks to the drivers just installed. now i can get it in to the menu selections while holding the down-vol & pwr.

but now im stuck at step 5 of Switching Recoveries
ive used different pc36img files but every time when booting it says no image file found. if i scroll down to recover it just goes into a boot loop. it will boot loop the htc ev4g logo over and over even on a regular power up.

ps- ocnbrze thank you for your time :)

Most likely it is one of two things. Make sure the PC36IMG.zip has the .zip removed so that the recovery image is only named PC36IMG and then make sure it is in the root directory of the SD card, not in a folder. Then hold volume down and power up the phone and it should check the PC36IMG image. After it checks the image it will ask if you would like to update, press volume up for yes. After it updates, reboot holding volume down to get to hboot, when it asks if you want to update tell it no, when asked if you want to reboot select no, select recovery and it should put you into amon ra recovery.

ok i placed the PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip to the root of my sd card renamed it PC36IMG (without any extention) when it looks for the img file it still says no image found so i never get asked if i wish to update. Still if i select the recovery option it does the boot loop.

any other suggestions or correction i might be able to try?

and are you sure that you have it on the root of the card? not in any folders, right?

If you ran an RUU then you are now unrooted.

No. They just have a stock Rom and recovery. You need to flash the s-on tool to be completely unrooted. You can still flash roms and different recoveries at this point, if you have s-off.
