Help Help! tariff overused - mobile data question

Apparently I have used 700mb from December 17th - December 28th

How?

I use a few social networking sites, email and browsing but this is ridiculous.

The only thing I can think of is if a flash video has been left on and running in the background. Is this possible though?

I can't believe I have used this much and and rather distraught that I can not use the internet on my phone for another 2 weeks until I get another 500mb.

thanks

I have my internet on constantly 24hrs a day, get about 30 - 40 emails per day and then in my spare time browse facebook/news/you tube.

I would certainly query your network provider as I have 500mb on my plan and have never come anywhere near it.

wifi tethering ? or usb tethering?
if you dont realise you are doing it and are connecting to a pc via a cable with usb tethering set to auto then your pc will start browsing using that

ok, thanks, so how do I check this

edit: it cant be as I dont connect to the pc with a cable

I queried my network provider and they said i had definitely used this much, as I had heavy usage on 19th and 21st December.

I have now turned mobile data off and am just using home wi-fi

But this is very disappointing as i am not getting the full use of my phone when i am out and about.

tell them to list you the usage on those days, its nearly impossible to use that unless you were streaming flash or something for a few hours each day. i would imagine your battery dying though

what network are you with?

Orange UK. Battery been lasting 24 - 30 hours with average use.

I'll have to pop in to the shop I suppose.

My battery does not last that long!! I had same prob. T-mobile told my i had exceeded my limit for the month... altough i had hardly used it. I bought my phone from carphone warehouse but decided to take it to T-mobile as they are my service provider. I was told that there is a bolt on they add to Android phones which compresses the amount of data it uses - since they added it i have never had any probs n can use net, youtube,FB, email etc as much as i like.

Are you sure it's 700mb. I thought Orange capped at 100mb a month. I used to use this every month when I was on Orange so eventually moved to Three (500mb a month).

Orange standard is 500MB
As an Orange 500MB user smallclone can you tell me what actually happens when you go 200MB over the limit? Are they charging you for it or is there a daily cap. Because at Orange Pay and go prices 200MB would be about

I went all the way to the orange shop only for them to say I have to ring orange as they can't discuss my bill.

so i rang them again and they said i have definitely used that much but they can't tell me what on.

This is absurd. I use wi-fi 90% of the time i am on the internet.

I have now installed the data manager to see what i am using, but I can't turn on 3G for 3 weeks or I'll incur charges if it connects.

absolutely ridiculous way to use a smart phone - less usage for extra money = pathetic.

i have mobile data turned off, yet someone just sent me a picture message, and the 3g kicked in, meaning i have incurred extra daily charges.

This is getting expensive and very annoying

sounds like extreme usage - when i've spoken to orange before they've said that while they can't see which sites/services are being looked at or used, they can see exactly what times the connection is active and for how long.

having wireless networks enabled in 'location' settings can rinse your allowance, but not by nearly that much i wouldn't have thought

How come the 3g just clicked on when I have mobile data turned off guys?
i would imagine mobile data is referring to internet rather than mms
mms is a seperate section

how many apn's do you have ?

do you have a "default, supl" and then an "mms"
or is it just "*" or "default"
What will this do?

it will stop your phone from being able to use the network settings to connect to 3g. if there are no apn's then it cannot connect as it cannot find the data services

I have 3:

Orange internet {this is ticked and it's type is default}
Consumer broadband
Orange MMS

Thanks for the continued help

consumer broadband? hmmm

eitherway you might be best to click on each and press menu/delete for now if you are worried

when your tarrif resets then you can reset defaults for the apns and it should give you a choice for orange again.
if it doesnt just google orange mobile internet settings

well at least i wont incur any extra charges then.

I have to wait until my bill to see what was using the 3g, but considering that I was at work and then home on one of the days with heavy use (both with wi-fi) I'm not sure its going to tell me much.

Very confused but thanks for help
