Root Help unlocking bootloader

knoximus

Newbie
Ok, so I cracked the screen on my HTC Evo 4g that was rooted forever ago. Best Buy gave me a loaner Evo 3d, which I immediately rooted to see it I could. Then, when I get my new Evo 4g, I tried to root that as well, as I have done it many times in the past. Using the HTCDev method, I go through all the steps leading up to have to type "fastboot oem get_identifier_token" in the CMD so that I can copy the long code that it gives. I'm familiar with that, so it should not have been a problem. After pressing enter, it gives me two lines of code and nothing more. I then have to close the command window to try again. What can I do. I have to root my phone and get away from the stock rom.
Oh, so the new phone they gave me is completely upgraded to 5.07 or something and at Hboot 2.18, Android v. 2.3.5.
Help please

I know you said you've done it before but I have to ask...are you copying all the contents of the token?
And then it just pastes 2 lines or so?
I've heard of some people copying the token, pasting it into notepad++ in windows.....copying it from there, then pasting it into the box...follow?
copy token, paste into notepad, copy again from notepad, paste into box.:)

Edit: I think I read your post wrong, after your typing of the command fasboot oem xxxxx, you get 2 lines of code? what does it say?

This is all that I get:

C:\Users\Owner\Desktop\rootevo4g>fastboot oem get_identifier_token
...
(bootloader)
(bootloader) 4BDD755B3D605A6392DDDC1CF09A644E
(bootloader) D132D77588B57ABED0974D6037F14CBD

Then it just hangs there. I haven't found this problem anywhere else yet.

Can I assume, the folder you created, instead of naming it "Android", you named it "rootevo4g"?
In that folder, where you opened the command window, should have these 3 files in it.

adb.exe
AdbWinApi.dll
fastboot.exe

I've got those three and the following:
AdbWinUSB.dll
HTCDriver 3.0.0.007
libcurl-4.dll
libjson-0.dll
mgwz.dll
msvcr71.dll
recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3
revolutionary.exe
su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip
This is my root folder from a previous successfull attmept.

yeah, your missing some files....
go to this guide, it will help you out for sure.:)
I would create another folder on your desktop, name it "Android" and run the commands from that folder.

I made an Android folder, moved it to the C drive, redownloaded the all the file and put them in the folder, as needed. Tried to get the identifier token again, but I am still having the same problem: only two lines appear. Any other suggestions?
Thanks for looking into this

no need to put it on c drive just on desktop. Mouse over to folder hold shift and right click to open command window here. Easier I think. On phone now or id help more:p
Are you running command from the android folder?

I choose "all other models" as the Evo 4g (sprint) is not listed. Aside from that, there hasn't a need to go back to HTCDev until I get pass this step. I did try to put just those two lines in, but it quickly stated that they were not enough. I knew that would happen.

The longest I've waited was about 45 minutes. I know that the process only takes about 15 seconds.

wow 45 mins!!!! that is crazy.

weird i have never heard of this. ok so lets try some things. first power off the computer and wait a min or so before rebooting it. at the same time lets reboot the phone as well.
