Root Help Unroot Evo 4G step by step!

ok so my family got talked in by this tech that fixed my computer to buy Sprint service and we did. he brought us our phones and said to bring them in to his work and he had to put a program on them to get the teethering to work. We did and found out he must of rooted them. I cant get anything to work right since. i cant send pix messages, get get 4g anymore, gps is gone, get kicked off internet all the time and sent to homepage, and the thing that pisses me off the most is i cant call anyone who has extension numbers. i have health problems and cant call doctors, work, school or anyone with an extension. i want my phone back to the way it was when i first got it. i went to the guy and told him all of this and he basically laughed at me and said i didnt know how to use the phone and refused to put it back the way it was. Sprint wont touch it either since its been rooted. I know it has Astro, Warm Z point twoif that helps. if you know how i can fix these problems fine great let me know but for now i need help unrooting it. im not very computer smart so i would need step by step help. thanks so much!!

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so lets verify first that you are rooted first. do you have s-off? to find out power off your phone then press and hold power+vol down. this will get you to the hboot screen. it will say on the screen either s-on or s-off. also since you are on the same screen what is your hboot?

if you have s-off, then you are rooted. we can help you maybe fix your issues while staying rooted. because there are a lot of advantages that you can use that you can't when you are unrooted.

but if you really want to unroot, we can also assist you in that as well.

either way i would recommend that you read the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html guide. it will help you with root or unroot your phone.
 
ok it says S-OFF and HBOOT-2.10.0001 if we can fix the different issues i will keep it rooted but i want everything i lost back. LOL again thanks
 
I agree with Ocn. I would start by reading the Rooting for Dummies guide. It will give you alot of info either way you go. The next question is do you want something that looks and acts like the stock phone or something that is tweaked and themed a little or a lot. Being rooted will allow you to use the wifi tether for free on whatever rom you choose.
 
i dont mind if its tweeked or the same really i just want to send pix messages, use 4g, gps, and dial extensions also i forgot to mention i cant use my front camera.
 
WarmZ, I had issues with that Rom too. Your phone isn't broken, the operating system is just a little scrambled. You're rooted so we can help you, take a deep breath. :)
The question now is what do you want your phone to look like?
Do you want an updated version of Android?
A little info will help us guide you to the best Rom for YOU. :)

Reading the guide is the best place to start so you understand what you are doing to your phone not just how.
Try to read as much as you can then check out the roms and kernels download page. There are links to roms designed for our phone usually with screenshots do you can see what it looks like.
If I may suggest:
Miks roms are very good, super fast and stable.
Kings roms are also very good, more themed than others.
Or look up the stock odexed gingerbread Rom. If you're confused download this. It will be just like when you get it from a Sprint store, except its rooted and you still get free WiFi tether.
I'm on my phone or I'd post a link for you to the stock gingerbread Rom.
 
ok so lets start you out with mikg 2.2 rom. it is very stable, fast and super smooth. plus it has sense 2.1 and sense 3.0 which our evos will never get unfortunately.

edit: ok no screen shots, but trust me this rom is a great place to start out for you.

here are the steps:

1.download this file:Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!
2.transfer the file to your sd card
3.power off then press and hold power+vol down
4.select recovery
5.select"backup and restore" and select "backup". this will make a nandroid backup. it is a complete picture of your phone's current state. if for whatever reason you want to go back to a certain point in time you can just restore a nandroid backup.
6.in your recovery select "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition", and in "advanced" select "wipe dalvik cache"
7.do that three times (wiping is very important as it ensures a clean environmnet for your rom to install into)
8.select "install .zip from sdcard" and find and select your file that you downloaded earlier
9.once it is done reboot

now the first boot after flashing usually will take a bit longer. be patient and do not panic that is normal.

ok its downloading now its gonna take a couple hours so if i have any more questions i'll let you know again thanks.

p.s. my dad has the same phone as mine and he dont care about getting anything back except to dial extension numbers if i do this to his will he loose his hotspot that the guy unlocked on his phone because really we are not even being charged for it from sprint i guess they dont know hes using it.
 
MikG has the sprint hot spot installed. If you want the WiFi tether app, let us know. We'll find a link over at xda.
 
Got it all done! Everything seems to be good and working except I still can't send pictire messages is there a way to fix it? I made sure my 3G was on and is says sent but no one recieves them!
