Root help using setCPU

i have been trying to use setCPU i looked up what other people have profiles set to and i noticed that their screen off profile has their min set higher than their max. when i try to do this it will not let me. also everyone says they have there in mhz for instance when the screen if off they have it set to 275mhz but mine doesnt list mhz it has max 19200-86400, how do i know what the mhz is? one more thing how can i set it up to get the best use out of my battery? thank you all.

People must have transposed their min and max. It is correct that the minimum speed must be the same or less than the maximum speed.

Those are the speeds in MHz, except 19200, which is the speed in kilohertz (kHz). It would more properly be 19.2 MHz.

one more thing how can i set it up to get the best use out of my battery? thank you all.

A loaded question, and it probably depends on the ROM (or kernel) you are running. If you are running one of the Froyo or Gingerbread ROMs running Conap's CFS or BFS kernels (usually CFS these days), I would not put a minimum less than 245 MHz - there is little battery saved, if any, from speeds any slower. For the stock ROM running the Zanfur kernel, or for xtrROM, xtrSENSE, xtrRcMix, Tainted Tenzo, Evil Eris ROMs, which also run Zanfur, I think that you can save battery by running at minimum of 160 MHz or 122.88 MHz. You can also set a screen off profile, and the Zanfur kernel ROMs can run as slow as 19.2 MHz and still perform well (i.e., wake up quickly when you receive a call.) Again, for the CFS kernels, I would keep the screen off minimum no less than 245 MHz. For maximum speeds that save battery life, I think that 604.8 MHz is a really good compromise between battery savings and performance. It is too slow for you, you can bump it up to 710 MHz, but I think that any performance increase that you get above 710 will be relatively unnoticeable and battery life will be less.

Just my opinion.

Oh, do not use the SetCPU widget. It's known to be problematic.

If I can find a walk-through of how to make these settings somewhere I'll post it later. Basically, you set your default mins and maxes as I listed above. There is a profiles page where you can further tweak things - set a profile for when the screen is off to have a lower min and max, for example, or to have lower values when your battery level falls below a specific threshold.

thank you very much. that really helped. im running at 710 when fully charged, 604 when under 75%, 480 when under 25%, and 245 when screen is off. i guess we'll see how this works out. again thank you for the help
