Help with androot for my (sprint) htc hero

LET ME START OFF BY SAYING THAT IM NEW TO THIS "ROOTING" THING IVE HAD MY SPRINT HERO FOR ABOUT A YEAR I CAME ACROSS ANDROOT AND GOT CURIOUS I STARTED TO READ POSTS ON ROOTING GETTING ROMS MAKING UR PHONE ALOT BETTER BY ROOTING UR PHONE BETTER BATTERY LIFE WATCHED VIDEOS OF PEOPLE THAT ROOTED AND INSTALLED ROMS AND HAVE THERE HERO RUNNING ON FROYO 2.2 MODACO 2.2 ONLINE KITCHEN ETC. SO TO MAKE THINGS AS SHORT AS I CAN I WANT TO ROOT MY PHONE...SO I THINK I DID LOL I DOWNLOADED ANDROOT BETA VERSION ONCE I DID I OPENED IT AND HIT ROOT BUTTON WITH THE OPTION OF INSTALLING SUPERUSER 1.5-/1.6 SO ONCE I DID THAT IT WAS DOING SOMETHING LIKE THIS...INSTALLING TOOL KIT[OK] BUSY BOX [OK] ETC. THEN FINALLY IT SAID...WOOT! UR PHONE IS NOW ROOTED OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT QUESTION IS IS MY PHONE NOW ROOTED???...NOW I WENT TO MY APPS LIST AND NOTICE SUPER USER IS INSTALLED SO I OPENED IT AND IT WAS KIND BLANK IT LOOKED LIKE THIS APPS...NO APPS IN LIST LOG NO LOGS AND SETTINGS I TO BE HONEST WANT TO KNOW WHAT TO DO NEXT? AM I ROOTED? OR DO I HAVE TO MANUALLY DO IT ON A LAPTOP OR PC? I DONT HAVE A COMPUTER OR LAPTOP YET BUT I WILL BE GETTING ONE IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS BUT I SHOULDNT HAVE TO MANUALLY ROOT MY PHONE IF UNIVERSAL ANROOT IS ONE CLICK SIMPLE ROOTING RIGHT? AT LEAST THATS THE IMPRESSION I GOT WHEN I WATCHED AND READ ON IT SORRY FOR THIS THREADT TO BE SO LONG BUT I WANT TO ROOT MY HERO AND INSTALL A CUSTOM ROM AND MAKE MY HERO RUN 2.2 AND BE ABLE TO ENJOY THE POSSIBILITIES THAT ARE OUT THERE ETC. I AM AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF INSTALLING ROMS SUCH AS BRICKING UR PHONE AND SUCH BUT IM WILLING TO LEARN AND TAKE PRECAUTION WHEN DOING SO IF SOMEONE CAN HELP ME WITH THIS I WOULD APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH AND THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS:cool::cool::cool:
 
Sorry for my thread being in all caps Im basicly looking for help with universal androot this is the root forum for heros isnt it? It says that in the title rooting overclocking etc. Im new to this rooting thing and want to root my phone im not sure if i rooted it with universal androot u see im not sure if i need a pc or laptop to root my hero using universal androot and if i do need a pc or laptop to root my phone using universal androot then to me that makes no scence cause when i read about androot and watched videos on how to use universal androot it dod not mention anything about using a pc i want to root my phone and install a custom rom and be able to go beyond witj the possibilities that are out there if u or anyone can help me i would highly appreciate it thanks in advance
 
I read forums and watched videos on people who rooted and installed roms on there hero like froyo 2.2 i would love to root and have my hero run on 2.2 i need help! On doing so...and first of all i downloaded universal androot and supposedly rooted my phone but did i really??? I dont know for sure i hit the root button with the option of installing superuser 1.5/1.6 and as it was i guess rooting my phone it was doing something like this...busy box [ok] installing tool kit [ok] installing superuser.apk [ok] etc. Then it finally was,done and said...woot! U have rooted ur phone! So did i???
 
Sounds like you did....
You have a few options 1 - Download Titanium Backup.
Open it. if it works you are rooted.
Or terminal Emulator - Type SU - if it says access granted you are rooted.
 
thanks i am rooted:) i downloaded rom manager and got superuser permissions or whatever but like i said i am new to this so now i am stuck what do i do now so i can get roms like froyo 2.2 on my phone??? ive read and watched videos and found out theres all kinds of ways to get to 2.2 from 1.5 easy ways and hard ways to be honest it doesnt really make scence to me i guess i need a recovery image and but is that all??? and do i need a pc to do this? or can i do it just on myt hero?...can u help me out on this???
 
i did that...and when i did it wasnt doing anything it seemed like it would load or go or whatever but it didnt do anything i tried multiple times...i got version 2.0.3.2 of rom manager i think if that helps so when i hit were it says flashclockworkmod recovery it would do this...

flash clorkwokmod recovery
you must have clockworkmod recovery installed
before continuing! install the recovery through rom
manager first...so what does this mean?

then i have the option to hit install or cancel and when i would hit install it wont go or load or do anything what do i do???

At the top of the screen, flash clockworkmod recovery. It should be v2.5.0.1
 
Im not sure if ur understanding me i apologize if it sounds like im being rude im not...the rom manager that i have is version 2.3.0.2 its not the newest version but when i tried to download the newest version 3.0.0,it said this...application not installed rom manager cant be installed on this phone...anyway what if i install rom manager 2.5.0.1 and it doesnt work??? Cause i mean clockworkmod comes with rom manager right??? Im sorry i am new to all this but would luv to get my hero run on 2.2 i need all the help i could get thanks so much for the help...so if u could help me from here i would appreciate it

It should not matter what version of rom manager you have. Can you flash the clockworkmod recovery v2.5.0.1?
 
Are you sure you are rooted, do you have SU app, if yes, then click on the the SU app and let us know what it says. there is no reason as Andy mentioned that you cannot flash the recovery image no matter what version RM you have, the version is for different added and fixed features for the RM, has nothing to do with the recovery image. Report back

thanks so much ok well im going to try to be as short as i can...to start off i got a htc hero from (sprint) cdma now im not with sprint its a flash phone that i flashed to cricket im not sure if ur familiar with that company tho im sure u are so can that affect me? i mean it shouldnt matter since thats just company switching right??? now to answer andys question yes i do have the su app or whatever its called its named under this...sufbs thats it right? now when i click on the sufbs su app a little icon appears saying...superuser permission granted or something like that and i am able to get in its a directoy of my files and to be honest with u i dont know what this is really for but from what it seems like i can use this app


i do have superuser installed so when i click superuser it shows rom manager on there and sufbs-su app under the apps that have been granted i guess this is good right? and this is were i am stuck now what???
 
edit: i forgot to mention that on rom manager when i click flash clockworkmod rcovery the loading bar does not load u know what i mean right? it just doesnt download or insatll it doesnt do anything then i click it again and it would act like it will load but it wont so what can i do about this???

Have you tried flashing an alternate recovery? Go to the bottom of the rom manager app and flash 'alternate recovery'. If success, then try and flash clockworkmod recovery again
 
well see when i try that at the bottom of the page it brings this icon up...flash clockworkmod recovery

Uninstall ROM Manager and reinstall from the market.
Something is goofy with your version. The did maybe 3 updates in the last few weeks...
Maybe you got a bad version.
 
the version i had was version 2.0.3.2 i uninstalled and installed rom manager 2.0.2.6 that came with the liscence so it made it premium when i scroll down to flash alternate recovery it says no flash recovery available how can i make or get this option available??? in other words how can i get a alternate recovery? do i need this to proceed???
 
...They had an older version on the market?
Not sure that makes sense....I am on 3.0.0.1 ? Maybe its froyo -

OK now that you have Redownloaded - Click - Flash ClockworkMod Recovery
 
Something is fishy about your version, I just checked the market and it shows, 3.0.0.1, unless the paid version is different, that I cannot say, but definitely something wrong here, click HERE
 
Forgot to mention that to be honest when i downloaded rom manager i didnt download it from the market i got it from a third party i wonder if thats why nothing is working? If i download the free version from the market can i use the premium liscence i got from a third party with the free rom manager from the market???
