i been trying to root my x with superoneclick after the 2.3.340 update and cant get it to work .please help me,thank you

go to settings > applications > check "unknown sources" in the same tab go down to develoopment click it and then select "usb debugging".

Sorry for the delay, I was answering 4 other tech support questions! :)

Since the upgrade to 2.3.340 I am unable to root. I have tried z4root without any success. I have z4root 1.3. I have enabled USB debug and I have tried with my usb connection set as USB Mass Storage and also PC mode. I have let z4root try to root for 10mins with no success. I have tried both permanent and temporary root. Please help.

I had to do a factory reset after my upgrade. Before the factory reset, nothing would root my device - not manually, not OneClickRoot, not Z4, not anything.

After I did a factory reset, boom, root worked immediately.

No, a full factory reset. Boot into recovery by powering off the phone, then powering it on and holding the Home button at the same time, then press the Search button when the little Android appears. There will be an option to do a factory reset. Will remove all of your apps/emails/text messages/etc.

Wait a minute. z4Root works withOUT a computer. Make sure you are NOT CONNECTED to your computer when you attempt root. If you disconnect, it should work fine.

I am not connected to anything while running z4root. And just tried it again after a hard reset, still NO GO.

Multiple people having this problem it seems...

Did you try doing a factory reset like I suggested?

People here comment on the problem Z4Root Will Root the DROID X 2.3.340 Update - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

In order to root my 2.3.340 updated droid x I used the method found here to root the Droid 2: http://forum.androidcentral.co.... It uses rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin, su, superuser.apk and busybox. You need to have android terminal emulator, androzip and astro file manager installed. But it worked like a charm

But im getting permission denied trying to copy the files to /tmp/

I finally got z4root to work. I ended up deleting z4root and getting another copy of it.

Ok I seem stuck with Z4 also. How long should it have to run/spin for the rooting process to complete. It said I already had /su or whatever so gave me choices to temp or permanent or unroot. I chose permanent and its been stuck for nearly 10 minutes.

Lazer, if you do a battery pull, and try it again, it should go throughm reboot yoru phone ,etc. But it still wont be rooted..

For the people who are getting Z4root to work, did you unroot before doing the 340 ota?

Nope.. Phone was rooted when I did the OTA install of 340.

Lol, cant tell you how many times ive tried that *sigh*.

Before Z4 rebooted your phone, did the screen on the app flash white?

Hehe, I think so. I'm so shook up I can't remember after this damn build.prop issue, then the update finally working, then re-rooting. I think I need a damn xanax.
