Root Help with "rooted" Incredible with SLCD screen

Hello everybody. I bought an Incredible with the SLCD screen. Droid Incredibles come with either amoled or slcd screen types. The newer Incredibles have slcd screens. Not knowing this Incredible had the slcd screen, I went ahead and rooted it with Kinsellea2's rooting tutorial vie a Mac here: http://androidforums.com/incredible...2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off-13.html#post3623666

Anyway, Clockwork Mod recovery does NOT work afterwards as this tutorial was meant for the amoled screen type Incredibles only. Now when I go into Clockwork mod recovery on my phone, I do see HBOOT but as for recovery, I'm seeing is a black screen with two white lines on both sides of the screen. No recovery, no backup, no restore, no nothing. To top it off, the phone does not read the internal or external micro SD memory cards anymore. It's saying both are unavailable with no space information.

Again, the phone is rooted with no S-OFF as I could not get Unrevoked 3.32 to work.

I need help to flash or restore a SLCD type screen Clockwork Mod onto this phone. Could someone give me advice how to accomplish this PLEASE ?

I'm not sure what the differences are between the Mac and Win versions of Unrevoked 3.22 but the Win version has a menu that allows the install of a different recovery than comes packaged with the Unrevoked tool. If your version allows that, download Clockwork 5.0.2.0 from the OP of that thread, extract the .img and go that route to apply a SLCD friendly version of Clockwork.

See step #2 in the OP for a better understanding of what I'm getting at. Worst case, maybe you could fasboot flash the newer version of Clockwork.

MAC version has the menu bar grey out, thus not allowing you to chose your custom file. Clockwork Mod 5.0.2.0 does NOT work for SLCD type screens, only for AMOLED type screens.

5.0.2.0 works on both. Whatever old version comes packaged with Unrevoked 3.22 is what's not working. I guess I'd try the fastboot flash of the clockwork recovery img then. You can see what you're doing in hboot so that's a bonus.

Unrevoked 3.32 was not able to downgrade me to 2.2 I'm still at 2.3.4 I can boot to HBoot but I can't get to recovery, backup, restore screen. My screen is black with two white lines on the sides.

Unrevoked is not what downgrades you in this proceedure. The first major thing that is done is to run an old version of Unrevoked...3.22 (not to be confused with the newest Unrevoked 3.32), which is run later in the procedure. So it SEEMS to me like you ran 3.22 ok and got temporary root but 3.22 comes packaged with a really old version of Clockwork recovery which has the known side effect of causing the black screen with white bars on SLCD Incs.

So can you boot the phone and reflash recovery using Rom Manager? (uppermost option in Rom Manager menu) I'm thinking that would give you a newer version that would then allow you to see and navigate the Clockwork menu when you are actively in recovery.

I did used Unrevoked 3.22 initially then the tutorial said to use Unrevoked 3.32 afterwards, which I did. During Unrevoked 3.32's operation, it gave me some sort of error and the operation stopped. That's when I tried to go into HBOOT and realize the black screen with white sides. What's weird is that the phone will not mount the internal and external memory cards anymore. That's the reason I can't use ROM MANAGER as it needs the SD card to be mounted. I can mount the cards thru recovery in HBOOT but I can't even get to that screen.

Ok. So were you successful in running the chmod command on the flash_image and also flashing the misc.img? If so, the next step is downgrading by placing the PB31IMG on the sd card and it should begin to automatically load when you get to the hboot screen, which as I understand you, is still visible. You really don't yet HAVE to go into the actual recovery option to downgrade so the old Clockwork and the subsequent black screen with white bars may not be your primary concern right now. But, the automatic install from hboot won't begin unless the SD card was formatted to FAT32 ahead of time. Was your card formatted to FAT32 at the time of the original effort?

And...you may have an additional snag now if your SD card isn't being recognized at all b/c it'll be needed in order to run the PB31IMG for downgrade.

I'm not sure exactly how to get around that problem if it continues to exist. You may be time ahead to post in the other thread (downgrade/s-off thread by Scotty85). Maybe somebody in there will have some better ideas than myself.

Thanks a lot for the advice and suggestions. After trying three days to root this phone, I finally got it rooted. Issue #1, during the rooting process the phone somehow lost connection, lost ability to detect or read both the external and internal SD card memory. I was able to solve this problem with the this procedure:

SD Card Fix

Press & hold vol down and power on the phone
Select fastboot by pressing the power button

ADB commands (from the command line in Terminal)

fastboot oem enableqxdm 0
fastboot reboot

Issue #2: I follow the tutorial exactly but somehow the phone never was able to turn s-OFF. I had to run Unrevoked 3.32 like five, six times before it finally was able to. During this whole rooting process, I've learned quite a bit. Thank you Iowabowtech for the inspiration...

BTW, I'm a bow hunter also...
