Hey all, I bought this phone about a month ago and would like to root it. Its version 2.2.2 and I saw that gingerbreak was the best way. However every link I find, "can't be found". Is this still available and if so where and if not, how do I root it another way? Thanks!!

Ok thank you! Got it rooted but I've read don't use the flash recovery with my phone, so I didn't type in all that he said to into the terminal emulator. I did download titanium backup tho. Not sure if they do the same thing. I'm old and phone illiterate, lol
So besides uninstalling factory apps, main purpose for rooting, what else is cool or possible to do? Is there a root app for saving the battery? Thanks again!

I'M new to all of this to. Got the phone rooted no sweat. Make sure you back up all your apps before uninstalling. Then use Root Explorer or something similar. There is alot of cool apps available for a rooted phone. Just do alot of reading and go look at the market. I'M a reading troll thats how i figure things out lol.

If you are Rooted you now have the ability to delete something that will cause all kinds of problems. If you install a custom recovery and then make a backup of your ROM/system in the custom recovery (this is called a nandroid backup), then any mistake you make can be corrected by restoring your nandroid. The only exception is using the Factory Reset option in the privacy setting in the phone(You must never use this option on a rooted device or you will brick your phone).
With no custom recovery and nandroid, you could very easily wind up with a brick like my first Optimus V.
