Root Help with rooting

I own a HTC Evo, purchased back in April of 2011.

I'm new to this rooting stuff. I haven't downloaded anything or even attempted to root my phone but I want to after debating to myself if i should or not.

I have no idea where to start and i do not want to make my phone a paper weight so any help is welcome.

What will i have to do? Or what will i have to download? Also what is the best rom to get and how do i put it on my phone?

Start with the Rooting for Dummies Guide. A link is in my Sig. Read it about 3 times before starting Also go ahead and download the stuff you will need before starting and make sure you name things appropriately
