Help would Be Appreciated on hero Thank you...

Hello fellow phone users. I myself am new to the andriod operating system. I got myself a htc hero cdma (sprint) used. The guy that had it before hand, didnt do a good job at trying to mod it. lol! Learned what i can being a techy, i ruu ed it back to base. Then upgraded from there. I have been reading about rooting procedure, tryed androot. And worked but, its not solid enough. What i mean is this. First, best root method. Secondly, if kernel editing or substitution is needed which and what is recommended and finally what Custom rom should i used (recommended). I would just like to hear from the experienced members here. I understand what messing with an OS can do, if done incorrectly. I appreciate any help and thank you.

z4 would probably be your best bet for root depending on what build you have.

Once rooted, download rom manger from the market and flashclockworkmod recovery. Once you have successfully flashed v2.5.0.1, boot to recovery and make a nandroid of your stock rom. Once that is done, good to go flashing roms.

To flash a new kernel, you will have to be on a custom rom. Most kernels will allow overclocking up to 768.

What rom? Depends on what you want.

An AOSP rom such as CM6(froyo/2.2.1), aospmod(froyo/2.2.1) or aospGB(gingerbread/2.3.1). Cm6 and aospMod are stable roms with everything working. aospGB is WIP/unstable rom but imo, almost stable(no camera).

OR

A Sense UI rom. LiquidSense(eclair/2.1) is a no-bloatware rom. Pretty muxh a stock sense ui rom without all the bloatware. Any nfinite rom is worth flashing also. There is also sense/froyo rom but the camera does not work yet.

Hope this helps:)

Thank you mr. andy, yes it helped quite a bit, now overclocking a processor to 700+ on a phone of this sort would prob drain the life of cpu quick eh? as for the help i appriciate it sir, and if theres anything you need in the future ill be happy to help!

I've pretty much had the phone oc'ed at 768 since July, no troubles here. With moderate usage, battery lasts 12-15 hours

wow! ok lol about rooting and roms and such where do i download that software..on the xda site? what do you recom.

What do want? It's like a drug, once you start flashing, you won't stop:p

Look at the 'setting up aosp' or 'setting up CM6', there's some helpful information in there.

If you are looking at sense roms, look at these:

[ROM] NFX-Sprint.STOCK.2.32.651.2.ODEX.A2SD Updated:11/23/2010 - xda-developers

[ROM][NEW 11/30/2010] LiquidSense 2.1.1 Beta|PngOpt|ZipAlgn|Odex|No Bloat - xda-developers

[ROM] LiquidSense 2.1 Stable|PngOpt|ZipAlgn|Odex|No Bloat - xda-developers

The tough part of your request is "with all the features". This is different to everyone. Flash ASOPmod 9.9.2. You will find everything you need to know in the All Things Root thread of this forum. Links and directions are at the top of the thread:

[ROM][GPL][STABLE] aospMod v0.9.9.2 | AOSP 2.2.1 (Froyo) [12/10/2010]

It's a great ROM and as fast as I have found. I stopped on my way somewhere else and haven't left. :D

Man is this so true. I rooted mine for the first time early last month and so far have flashed the CM6, AOSPMOD, and the new GB rom. I like some of the features of the CM6 rom, and the GB is looking good, but still not just right for my daily driver, so I keep going back to AOSPMOD as it seems to be everything I really want.

Have fun, you will find you cannot stop.
