I don't know where to begin. I think every problem you could have with a phone, I have. The first problem was my phone getting stuck on the welcome scream when it was starting up. From there, I had contacts disappearing and reappearing, I had apps uninstalling themselves so when I went to click them I got a message saying it wasn't installed. I have been in the middle of using apps and it would quit and I would have to click force close. I had over 1200 itexts that all got erased by themselves. I had to choose whether to use HTC sense or home (not sure what that was for). I had to configure my email several times. When I try to use the touch screen keypad to dial phone numbers the keys would get stuck or wouldn't move, I will click one thing but something else would open. I think that covers all the problems. Anyway, I don't know what to do. I'm so frustrated. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
I forgot to mention my newest problem. Once I uninstalled my app that didn't work, I went to the marketplace to download it again and I can't. As a matter of fact I can't download anything. I tried to install Facebook for my phone. I click it and it says loading then it refreshes the page and nothing happens
 
OK we know the issues with your phone, now tell us about your set up, I assume you are still stock and not rooted, when did these issues start occurring, what SW version are you on, have you load a new apps lately since this has started happening, How long have you had this phone, do you still have a warranty ??
 
Hi Don. I probably should have mentioned this is my first Android phone. The SW version is 1.56.651.2 and I have no idea what rooted means. I bought the phone in June. These issues started about a month ago, but it wasn't very bad. It has been this bad about 2 weeks ago.
 
Ok for your info your phone SW is outdated and there have been 3 SW releases since. You will need to load the 2.1 Ruu upgrade for your phone, then update from there. If you need help with that let us know, and also keep in mind once you upgrade you will loose you full set up, meaning you will have to set your phone back up again from scratch.

I have absolutely no idea how to update the sw version. I went to click the device self service program that was in my downloads it won't work anymore. It starts to load and then it just goes back to my home screen. Also, when you say I will need to start from scratch, does that mean all the pics and videos I have will be deleted? I totally appreciate all the help.

Your sd card will not be erased;)
 
Well, just about everything quit working on my phone, so I did a factory reset, and so far things seem to be working. I still don't know how to update the sw version or how to root the phone, so I am waiting for advice

Download the software from the link below, then connect phone to PC. Run the file you just downloaded, it will run an installer that will update your phone. Everything on your phone will be wiped and restored to factory settings. The files on your sd card will not be touched.

Sorry I disappeared for a while, but I wound up really sick and spent almost a month in the hospital. I am getting better, unfortunately I can't say the same for my phone. It is still a disaster. PJ, I clicked your link, but there are several different things that can be downloaded. Do you know which one I should click?

Also, since yesterday every time I restart my phone, I get an error message immediately when it starts up that says: the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again later.

I have no idea what that means
 
Hope your feeling better, you should of told I could of come and cheer you up in the hospital since you also live in S FL., I back tracked to your thread from the beginning, I assume you have not upgraded your Ruu since we last spoke, if not and you are will to update it, let me know I will post files and a step by step for you. FYI I would also consider on rooting your phone, you will be much happier ;)

Hopefully she can get through it easily, but like you said, we are here to help if not. I also agree with the rooting idea. ;)

Hey Guys,

Thanks for the well wishes. That's so sweet Don;)

Anyway, I actually did the sync thing and updated the OS. So, now I am ready to try this root thing. It is a totally foreign concept to me. Besides tree roots... I didn't know you could root a phone lol:p

So if you can help me, I would be totally grateful. By the way, what does rooting the phone do anyway?
 
Gives you control over the software.
You can delete Sprints Apps that you don't use.
Or Flash a custom Rom (which I suggest)
Giving you way more speed and functionality....

Sorry about the accident - What part of S. Florida are you in - I just moved here from Pompano!

I would love to delete this useless junk from the phone. It takes up so much space.

OK he gave the root link, but before you do anything save yourself some headeaches and let us know when your ready and we will walk you through the full process from start to finish, I will show you roughly and quickly the process so you know what basically needs to be done, and that you are close to a PC when ready to do this so you can communicate with us online, otherwise you will be driving North on I 95 for 30 minutes and have to come to see me to fix your phone, LOL

Root process first

First thing you will have to do is download the Z4Root app that MHC gave you and install it on your phone, then the rest is a piece of cake for the rooting process, simply open the app and click on permanent root, then give it time to finish and do it's thing, after a while if it seems like it is not doing anything, like about 5 minutes, then you can either try to reboot your phone, or take the battery out and reboot the phone, once back up and running then check in your app drawer and see if you have the Superuser app, if you do then your are rooted. Now the first thing you will do once your rooted is download Clockworkmod from the market, then open CWM and allow it SU permission. At first open it may take 30 to 60 seconds to open, this is normal, once open you will click up on top of the app and flash a recovery image, then you will select Hero CDMA, then it will flash a recovery, it should say flash successful. once done, exit app and power the phone off, then we will make you boot into recovery, ( hold Volume down button and end key at the same time, then hold for 2 seconds, then when prompted hit the home key to get into recovery), once into recovery you will scroll down to backup and restore with trackball, and then hit the center of the trackball then scroll to restore and hit the trackball again, that will create a back up of your current rooted stock Rom. once all this is done then come back here and we will walk you through the process of flash a new Rom. Now you are rooted and have a safe Nandroid backup on your phone. ;)

When you are ready for the Rom process go to the all things rooted section and open a thread and one of us will walk you through the Rom process Sprint Hero - All Things Root
