Root Help!!!

Brian360

Android Enthusiast
Ok. I've had my EVO pretty much since launch and I want to root my phone. Never done it, and I'm not too tech savvy. I mean, just last night I had to enable UPnP on my router and that took me about an hour. So, if anyone is bored, and wouldn't mind helping me out. From start to finish, I would really appreciate it. My AIM name is BrianDeBruhl and my Windows Live Messenger id is X3FBrian@hotmail.com. I could even paypal you 10$ or so for your time. I know nothing of Roms or which one I would even run. Pref. one that is geared more towards saving battery life and getting rid of this bloatware. Thanks AF

I highly recommend using this guide: Rooting For Dummies It is what I used and it works great. You should not have any problems using this method but if you do post any questions you have and I'm sure someone will be quick to answer.

Yeah, your best bet is to read that guide several times over until you are comfortable with the steps. Then once you start, feel free to ask any questions along the way. There are, of course, places where you can get live help in chat if you get really stuck, but you're better off in the long run if you read, and do everything yourself. I say this because once you have root, you have a pretty big responsibility to not break things. That means knowing what you're doing, which can only happen if you read and understand. It's definitely a process, so don't expect to know everything over night :). Always feel free to ask questions whenever you need, though.

yeah, i agree that you should read the dummies guide and root yourself. main reason is if there was something to go wrong later on down the line you will be more prepared or atleast have a better understanding on what to do. believe me i understand how you feel, but the guide was REALLY helpful. i must have read the dummies guide over and over and over again. just remember this forum is great and everybody here is willing to help answer any question you have.

good luck and get your root on!

The folks here are great! The posts above are from the "gurus" they've helped me ALOT! If you get confused just ask a question, you'll have tons of support! :)

I was in the same boat and tried many different ways to find out how to root I.E. Fourms youtube. and many other sites. Then I found the Root for Dummies and was very comfortable with it so I proceeded. suprised to find it easy when I did the required READING . READ READ READ makes it better

Ok, so what rom would help battery life the most? I'm about to wipe my phone (and probably brick it)

ROMs won't change battery life that much, if you really wanted boosted battery life you need to flash a kernel. Although I suggest Kings UNleashed Ultra R2 ROM and Netarchy-Toastmod 4.3.2 CFS More HAVS nosbc kernel. It gives great battery life as well as good performance. If you use the Rooting For Dummies guide you most likely won't brick your phone. There are a lot of good ROMs out there you may want to go to xda and check some of them out, also there is a link in the guide to a list of xda ROMs although it doesn't have all of them because not all of the devs update it with their ROMs.
