help?

I have no idea, man. You should probably ask in the thread you listed above.

The developer of the tweaks would probably be able to help you out. Good luck.

Bro stick with one build and stop trying to find other apps and roms, you are looking for issue, if you have a good rom and it works good why keep tweaking your phone, do things you know what your doing, this Kifno guy is a nut, he has no clue IMO what he is doing and is a newbie at that, AOSP told him to take a hike in the IRC, stop looking for troubles. If it ain't broke don't fix it, GB works just fine if you keep it stock which it is meant to be ;)

the kifno's edited build props supposed to work for my htc hero, and cm7 nightly, but when i boot it, the lockscreen doesnt work? [MOD/TWEAK] [BL & MP] Kifno Tweaks Universal Startup Scripts v1.0 (3/20/11) - xda-developers

Yeah and I just wanted to echo what DonB is saying because a lot of these tweaks are made with good intentions but they are not as rigorously tested as you might hope. I am not saying anything against the developer here. ;)

By the way, DonB, what IRC server and channel are you speaking of? I would love to stop by sometime. :)

is it a fresh install of the rom and did you use the script or the build.prop?

i saw this on google when looking for people that needed help :D so i registered and here i am :D

dude don't talk trash bro i know exactly what i am doing and fyi i'm not a noob, and aosp told me to take it the irc b/c i have a rom i am working on and i couldn't compile cm7 from virtualbox b/c of usb/adb shell issues and the heroc repository was down so i was searching for a base....eventually cyanogen himself contacted me and told me that i could use the rc2 cm7 rom as a base bro for making gingersense....so i wouldn't call me a nut/noob/"doesn't know what he is doing" type of person, yeah my grammar and punctuation and some spelling may be off right now but where is the grammar police?!! lol just kidding but really be friendly dude and dont talk about others.

the build.props have been tested by MANY MANY MANY, the new universal scripts aren't stable yet and are being released to public under testing purposes so that i can find issues with other roms and fix it, for example i found this site and he had a problem with the script. i'm here to help and yes you're right they are made with good intentions but testing leads to stable versions but unfortunately testing takes a while for things like universal tweaks and mods that are supposed to work on all roms for a device. because i don't test out on EVERY rom myself just the majority of them.

also op, did you use bl or mp version?

AOSP one but you need to register, #aospbot

btw aosp is helping me become a great dev and he only told me to go to irc (just to reitterate) so that we could discuss the rom i'm working on b/c he didn't want me to highjack his thread and talk about my rom on his thread...but that doesn't matter we are all friends in the xda community so i'm not offended by your comment just be friendly is all i ask bro :D

kifno is now a member of androidforums :D but i'm mostly on xda as you can tell

So simple question then, why did you not simply PM him when you were asking numerous times in the thread if you could use his compiling for CM7, don't you think that would of been more appropriate, and as for this thread, I was many explaining to a member who seems to want to keep trying new things but seems to be confused in what he is testing then cries wolf. I go by the old school, read and then read some more, then ask questions and before you try something make sure you know what to do if you have an issue, we are not always here to help in dire need. We do our best that we can.

FYI no disrespect to you as I don't know you, but all I can say from what I was reading in the threads and in the IRC seemed to me they were trying to tell you to contact AOSP in private and that it had nothing to do with the thread, and members were getting frustrated with you

Well, kifno, I am glad to see you are here. That shows true dedication to your work and the end users of it.

To be honest, I am not in the loop regarding what has been mentioned above about your actions at xda-developers and in IRC. I was only going off past experience that some tweaks can cause a handset to act wonky or not in the manner that was expected. Like I said above, there was no malice aimed at you. Finally, I understand that end users are your test bed and that testing takes time. I am a software developer for a living and understand that testing can take a long time and the quality of the work comes with that time. I, like DonB, am pretty old school, in that we both research and research to death before pulling the trigger on anything new. The words in my previous post were mostly of caution to boblo when dealing with tweaks that are still in fairly early development. Since he is still new to the game of rooted Android, I just wanted to make sure he understood the pitfalls that can sometimes be involved.

Hey boblo, tweak away:p:D

The only way your are going to learn is by messing with your phone. I would not listen to DonB and LB:p, as long as you make a nandroid and if problems arise, nandroid restore. As long as you don't flash the wrong radio, a GSM rom or something that would brick your phone, tweak the phone anyway you want;)

I was never trying to dissuade boblo from experimenting with his handset, andygu3. I was merely warning him that things can go awry sometimes, but as always, salvation is a Nandroid restore away, as you stated. :p

The reason why I love Android is because it enables me to constantly tinker with my handset. Well, at least when I have time. ;)

I understand, but the guy was asking for help with a situation and the response he gets is "stop tweaking your phone", "don't do anything that you don't understand...."

There's so many helpful people in these forums and since we are writing in the 'all things root' section, tweaking and flashing roms, kernels....is what we do.:D Help others as others have helped you:)

My original response was to ask the tweak's developer in his own thread at xda-developers because I was unfamiliar with said tweak. I fail to see were I told him to stop using tweaks. :(

The next post I agreed with DonB, in that he should be wary of any potential side effects of using tweaks that have not been thoroughly tested yet. I was not saying the developer of the tweaks was a greenhorn or that he should not try out tweaks, given the proper research prior to taking the plunge of course. To me, research is the key, and he should do some before just flashing a tweak. It is fun to try new modifications to a handset, but a little preparation and prior knowledge can only enhance the experience, in my opinion.

You are correct, if you don't know what you're doing to your phone, DO NOT DO IT! Because I learned that the hard way (using my 2nd hero phone right now b/c of my beginning days of having a rooted phone). But I did PM aosp but I got a little anxious and I jumped the gun...A LOT.....see I get a little excited at times when I come up with ideas when talking with other devs through pm. And a group of themers and I came up with an idea for a gingersense rom for the hero. But when I went to compile CM7 myself after getting cyanogen's permission from him up front, I ran into problems (USB + VirtualBox on my Windows 7 Desktoip = Fail....which equals= no compile). So I needed a already compiled base. So being as excited as I was I sent him like 3 private messages and spammed his thread to try and get an answer from him asap. I quickly found out the IRC was the fastest way to contact him. I didn't know about the IRC because I don't use aosp roms AT ALL. I used my own rom. So eventually once I registered for the IRC and stuff we chatted there and he helped me learn a quick few things and told me instead of using his rom as a base use the cyanogenmod 7 rom as base. I asked cyanogen himself that since I couldn't compile could I use the rom as base, he again said yes and work on my version of cm7. So now here I am about to release the rom in about 3-4 hours after uploading 8 different roms i'm working on for other developers in xda that needed my help. But I know members do tend to disklike me at times when I get excited and jump the gun, I'm trying to break that habit lol. ;) Again we're all friends in the root community bro. I'm here as your friend, your help-er, and dev :D

You are exactly correct sir. And my actions in xda are described above as for the explaination. But yes you are exactly right in what I was thinking about testing, developement quality comes with testing, researching, and new users trying new things that are still in developement. Stole the words right out of my mouth :D

All I can say to this is, :p :p :p

NP bro all is good and anything I could do to help let me know, no issues here, was simply following the thread over @ XDA and they were getting annoyed, no Biggie
