does anyone have the problem of downloading the ROM then copying it over to the sd card, when i go to recovery and install from sd card, it is not there. it has happened to me twice. i was able to install 1 rom once, then everytime i download another nightly or another rom, it does not show up on my install from sd card list, can anyone help?

I've never had problems. Does the ROM show up of phone is mounted to a computer or if SD card is in a computer?

If possible, download to pc, then transfer to card with the phone in disk drive mode. Load directly from recovery.
i tried this and it still doesnt work. just wish i knew what was going on.

Really? Just to be sure, you're doing the following right:
Download Rom directly to PC, hook up phone to PC using USB cable and in disk drive mode with USB debugging enabled. Go to My Computer and find the drive letter that is your SD card contents. Make sure you're not accidentally choosing the phone's internal storage as it will also be listed as a drive. Drag/drop the Rom you downloaded from the PC desktop onto the SD card...don't try placing it into a folder, just place it onto the root of the SD card. Swipe down notification bar and go to charge only, disconnect from PC.
Now boot directly into recovery (Clockwork?) not using Rom Manager at all. Then use the options to Install zip from SD card > Choose zip from SD card > find your zip on the root of the card and install it. (after wiping data/cache/dalvik if desired).
That doesn't work for you?
