My phone is an HTC evo 4g, and there are a couple of things wrong. First, it's rooted, and I don't know how this changes the phone but it has been bugging out lately and I think that might be the problem. I have a system update on my phone, and it gets about 15% done, and then has an exclamation and a little triangle and won't finish. And now lately, when I put it on the charger, it charges down. I don't know what being rooted does, or the advantages it gives me, but I have kinda been looking into getting it unrooted. Someone please HELP!
First of all, welcome to AF!!
Secondly, I would assume you did not root it.

Third, I would highly recommend that you stay rooted: a) better troubleshooting and repairing vs. a non-rooted phone. b)more fun to install different roms (operating systems--simply put).
Fourth, don't try to download an OTA update, it will mess with your root status. Seeing as you attempted this, we can try to fix it.
We need to find out what your bootloader screen says first, so....
Go into menu/settings/applications and uncheck fastboot. If that option is not there, dont worry, just pull battery, then put battery back in.
Then while holding the volume down button, push power.
The next screen that comes up is your bootloader screen.
Post back here everything that is printed on that screen.
You can reboot from that screen when done.
If you wish to remain rooted, then while on that screen, highlight "recovery" and tell us what comes up.
If you wish to un-root, then reboot and we wil guide you where to go once we know what your bootloader screen says o.k.?
No worries here, lots of help available to you
