Root Help!!!!

I have a virgin Mobile wildfire s.I managed to get s-off but am having no luck with rooting the device.Everytime i try to root via superoneclick the application freezes

I'm a little confused about this. So you already got s-off? Sounds like you are rooted. Is it freezing because you are already s-off? Can you just flash a custom ROM now? How did you gain s-off? Do you have a custom recovery?

If you are s-off you never have to unlock your bootloader. Unlocked bootloader gives you freedom to do most things. S-off gives you total freedom. If you are s-off you have no restrictions. You never have to unlock with htcdev and void warranty.

Thank you Brian! Most of the guides i read were kind of confusing and telling me to do a variety of different things. What would be the next step to rooting then?

Keep in mind I'm not completely familiar with your device but I am somewhat familiar with htc in general . So what exactly have you done? What did you do to get s-off?

Generally one you have s-off you need to install a custom recovery and flash the superuser app

Thanks rx. That's what I was thinking too. But sometimes the "one click" s-off methods flash a recovery for you so I was trying to figure out exactly where things are at!

Can you reboot into recovery for us? A red triangle with an exclamation mark would be the stock recovery. If that appears you need to install one

it took me to a black and green screen when i booted into recovery

That sounds like your custom recovery. Did you use TWRP for your recovery?

I am assuming it is this:

Use the volume buttons to navigate the recovery menu and use the power button to select your options.

Download this superSU patch and put it on your sd card.

Boot into recovery and choose install zip. Choose the file that you just put on your sd card and let it do its thing.

Installing this will allow your phone to grant root permissions. After it finishes and your phone boots up use Root Checker and let us know if you are rooted! :)
